We are called the “Buffalo City” for the World’s Largest Buffalo and North American Bison Discovery Center.
The Historic 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse is fully restored and ADA accessible. It is older than the state of North Dakota.
Jamestown has a population of over 15,000 people.
Jamestown is considered North Dakota’s Motorsports Capital.
Peggy Lee was born in Jamestown in 1920 as Norma Delores Egstrom.
Louis L’Amour grew up in Jamestown, born in 1908.
Jamestown has over 35 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails as well as walking paths at most parks.
Jamestown is home to the St. James Basilica, the only basilica in the state.
Jamestown has a kayak water trail with launch docks and kayak rentals from Nickeus Park to Klaus Park.
Many who settled in Jamestown immigrated from Germany or were Germans from Russia.

NORTH AMERICAN BISON DISCOVERY CENTER
Learn about the near extinction of the bison and the work continuing today to restore the species. A herd of Bison is managed in pastures near the Center, find them using the look-out points or take a pasture tour to get up close in a safe and educational manner!

FRONTIER VILLAGE
To find the World’s Largest Buffalo and North American Bison Discovery Center, you will go through the Frontier Village. It tells both local history and depicts the tales of the pioneers who homesteaded on the prairie.

1883 STUTSMAN COUNTY COURTHOUSE
North Dakota’s statehood was born out of this building. Today, it is home to a hands-on exhibit teaching about government using machines from the 1880s. It holds the state’s most complete collection of pressed tin in a Gothic Revival Architecture style, a rare site on the 1883 prairie. Open Memorial Day-Labor Day or by Appointment: Wed-Sun 10am-5pm

STUTSMAN COUNTY MEMORIAL MUSEUM
One block north of the 1883 Courthouse is the historic Lutz Mansion, AKA the Stutsman County Memorial Museum. Artifacts about Peggy Lee, the Northern Pacific Railroad, and many local collections are on display. You can also find a replica two-story gazebo, similar to one built in 1883 to honor a visit by former US President Ulysses S. Grant.

FORT SEWARD
Fort Seward was built in 1872 and was active until 1877. It provided support and protection to the Northern Pacific Railroad workers as they built through the region.

ST. JAMES BASILICA
One of only 93 Minor Basilica in the United States, this Catholic Church is a stunning example of an American Gothicstyle Church. The “Windows of Faith” (stained-glass windows) are a community treasure and one reason the church has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Two Rivers Activity Center is a state-of-the-art recreation center that includes an indoor pool, outdoor splash park, outdoor pickleball courts, gymnasium, turf and bubble space as well as a strength and cardio area and walking track. Day and week long passes for the facility as well as monthly memberships are available. Basketballs, volleyballs, tennis and soccer equipment available for use. GEOCACHING
A high tech outdoor game that uses a GPS Receiver or GPS enabled smartphone app to find containers (geocaches) hidden by other players. Geocaches can range in size from the size of your thumb to a 5 gallon pail. All geocaches contain a log sheet for the player to sign to verify their visit to the cache.
Within 30 miles of Jamestown there are approximately 170 caches.

3000 E Lakeside Road north of the Jamestown Reservoir Dam
Championship caliber course and ND’s most scenic. Excellent variety of shots from big boomers to finesse. Good elevation, water, and tricky pin placements make this a jewel course for the competitive player. The course was changed to a 24-hole course in 2018 with new basket tops and all new signs.
KLAUS PARK COURSE
4th ST SW and 5th AVE SW
An 18-hole disc golf course with Innova Discatchers and cement tees. The course was designed in this scenic park alongside the James and Pipestem Rivers. This short, but technical course will make for some interesting technique shots.

BIRDING, HUNTING, AND FISHING

BIRDING
From Jamestown heading north to Carrington is the Prairie Pothole Region. Volunteers from Birding Drives Dakota and the Friends of the Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge have made it easy to go where the birds are. Six birding drives will take you to remote hotspots amid sweeping grasslands, rolling woodlands, wooded draws, and diverse marshlands.
ARROWWOOD NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE COMPLEX
Chase Lake and Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuges provides 75,000 acres for birding. Chase Lake is home to one of the largest American White Pelican mating colonies in North America. The Arrowwood Refuge Headquarters provides several visitor services including a visitor center, a 5 ½ mile auto tour, view blinds for the dancing of the sharptailed grouse in early May, as well as several nature and hiking trails.

Stutsman County has great prospects for waterfowl, deer, and upland game hunting. Pipestem Lake, Jamestown Reservoir and Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge have lands that are open to the public. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department can provide information on Conservation PLOTS and licensing.

Superior prospects for perch, pike, walleye, and others characterize North Dakota fishing. On the north edge of town, close to all the amenities, the Jamestown Reservoir and Pipestem Dam and Lake are the most developed fishing areas. Spiritwood Lake (fifteen miles northeast) is a close runner up.

Peggy Lee (1920-2002) was an American jazz, and popular music singer, songwriter, and actress who lived and worked in this depot during her high school years from 1934 to 1937. The living quarters upstairs in the depot is dedicated entirely to Peggy Lee’s life, career, and music.
