Plant a Tree for the Jubilee This year marks an amazing 70 years of service from Her Majesty The Queen, having been crowned the future Queen on 6th February 1952, at the young age of 25. Her Majesty The Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. You will notice lots of events and initiatives taking place throughout the year including a special four day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June.
The Queen’s Green Canopy The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree-planting initiative that invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’. Everyone from individuals to villages, cities, schools and businesses are encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting a tree. You are invited to do this from October 2021, the start of the tree-planting season, through to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022. On Friday 15th October 2021, Cathrina Claas Mühlhäuser, Chairwoman of Supervisory Board and Chairwoman of Shareholders’ Committee CLAAS KGaA mbH, planted a Crimson King Maple tree as part of the QGC initiative at the CLAAS UK headquarters at Saxham, Suffolk.

Trees have a huge number of benefits and we need to do our best to protect them.
Trees have been on Earth for 370 million years. Amazing! Trees help slow the rate of climate change.

…not that kind of bark – you’re barking up the wrong tree.
They clean our air. They provide a home to lots of wildlife.
You can tell how old a tree is by the number of rings inside its trunk. We can’t see the rings without cutting it down.
To get a rough estimate of the tree’s age without having to cut it down, you can measure the tree’s circumference (cm) about 1m from the ground and divide it by 2.5.
Why do trees have bark? Bark protects the tree from water loss, keeps it free of fungus and protects the tree from the sun’s heat. Bark is very important.

CEMOS drivers are unbeatable.
Just think how great it would be if you had a person sitting on the passenger seat next to you, telling you the very best way to operate your machine. Well that’s CEMOS. The person in the driver’s seat no longer needs to worry about changing the settings e.g. tyre pressures to get the very best performance from their machine. CEMOS does it all for you, it helps the operator complete tasks in the right order, asks for operator feedback and records what it has learnt. On a touch screen in the cab, CEMOS will provide recommendations to be more efficient and sustainable. It even takes into account details that we can’t see with our eyes.
The CEMOS challenge
CEMOS technology is available on our combines, foragers and tractors.
CEMOS not only benefits the farmer in terms of efficiency and costs, but also the environment. Reducing fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and soil compaction are important ways in which we can help look after the planet.
claas.co.uk
In September 2020 on a farm in eastern Germany, we challenged our customers to a duel between drivers with CEMOS for tractors and drivers without. The test was performed under very strict guidelines. The results were as follows:
Up to -16.8% lower fuel usage Up to 16.3% higher work rate

Lowenna with her older brother George.
Lowenna on the farm.
Farm life with Lowenna Collins A farm is a wonderful place to grow up. Lots of fresh air, open spaces, always a hive of activity and lots of adventures to be had. In this issue we spoke to Kids Club member, Lowenna Collins, who is 8 years old and lives at Treveor Farm near Truro in Cornwall. Her dad Josh and mum Helen run a contracting business with a large fleet of CLAAS machinery. A big thank you to Lowenna for answering our questions, we hope everyone enjoys reading about her many experiences while living on a farm.
What do you like about living on a farm? “You don’t have to stay inside all day and I never get bored. I love all the animals. Sheep are my favourite and I love having orphan lambs.”
How do you like to spend your time? “Going out to see my dad on his tractor or forager is my favourite thing. I also love going out riding – hunting with Mum, show-jumping and going to gymkhanas. My pony is called Beau.”
claas.co.uk
What’s your favourite tractor? “Because we’re contractors we’ve got seven tractors but my favourite is our special edition CLAAS AXION 830. It’s painted in sparkly gunmetal grey and looks really cool.”
What do you want to do when you’re older? “I want to be the forager driver. I love going out to see the grass and maize being harvested to make winter feed for people’s animals. It’s bound to be a CLAAS JAGUAR but it’ll have to be painted pink!”
What do you think your mum and dad do at work all day? “They both work really hard – Mum gets up really early to go milking on a farm down the road where one of my brothers also works. Then she comes home and does computer work in the office. Dad is nearly always on a tractor or the forager. His favourite job is baling.”

Spring 2022
Spring At CLAAS UK, we are very lucky to eat fresh, locally sourced, in season food every day at our onsite Seasons restaurant. The restaurant has been ergonomically designed which means it’s been laid out to provide everyone with the very best experience. Being on the top floor of the 16.5m high building, we enjoy panoramic views to the right over the open countryside and to the left an outdoor terrace area. Here we can catch up with colleagues over a bite to eat or a coffee in the summer months, or in the winter if you’re brave enough. On a daily basis, the team will serve between 35-130 people with breakfast, lunch and snacks.
Why Seasons restaurant? CLAAS have always been passionate about supporting British farmers, who produce food to some of the highest standards in the world and, by supporting them, we can help them go even further. The team in the restaurant change the menu monthly to reflect food that is in season and hasn’t travelled thousands of miles to get to our plates.
Summer
Food for thought When your family goes to the supermarket to do their weekly food shop, they have a very wide choice of foods that are available all year round. This is because food can be transported easily across the globe on lorries, boats and even planes. However, this comes at a huge cost, not just economically but to the environment too. Transport uses lots of energy creating CO2 which is harmful to the environment.
Autumn
When you next go to the supermarket with your family why not look at the label. Does it tell you where the food has come from? Does it provide a description of who produced it? And if it’s imported, is there a British equivalent in season? This is all food for thought!
Red Tractor The Red Tractor logo can only be used on food that has been produced, transported, stored and packed to the required standards that have been defined by a panel of experts. Have you noticed the Red Tractor logo on any of the food items in your shopping basket? claas.co.uk

What’s the British Lion scheme? Eggy Fact
The British Lion is the UK’s most successful food safety mark with 90% of UK eggs now produced within the Lion scheme. The eggs are produced under the requirements of the British Lion Code of Practice which covers the entire production chain. It has strict safety controls such as a guarantee that all hens are vaccinated against Salmonella. Also a passport system is used to make all hens, eggs and feed fully traceable.

It’s a Spring morning after a bad storm in the night. But nobody on the farm has slept very well.
Today is market day and Peggy the Pickup needs to take Farmer Green off to market with the eggs. But both Peggy and Farmer Green have overslept so they are late.
3
Susie the SCORPION rushes around to put the eggs into boxes, then stacks them into the back of Peggy.
4
Goodbye everyone, we’re off to market! But as she turns the corner Peggy sees a great big tree lying across the road. It’s been blown over in the storm. “Oh no, now we’ll never get our eggs to market on time,” says Farmer Green.

FARM SAFETY
POSTER COMPETITION Life on the farm is great, but you always need to be careful of what is going on around you. Farmyards are not playgrounds. Farmers and farm workers use tractors and other machinery every day. These machines are powerful, and so you need to be careful at all times when near them.
Enter for the chance to win a CLAAS bike gift set. Send your entries to: CLAAS Kids Club, CLAAS UK LTD, SAXHAM, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP28 6QZ. Or email your entries to trac.uk@claas.com
We would love you to design a poster to help others be safe around farm machinery. To enter our competition all you need to do is make a poster about the potential dangers of working machinery on the farm.
Or send us a DM (direct message) on our Facebook or Instagram pages.
Competition closes on the 30th June 2022 and the winners will be contacted by the 8th July 2022.
