Shouting matches, interruptions and accusations. The only thing that set the Feb. 9 Board of Education meeting apart from the Jerry Springer show was its lack of a catfight, a bouncer named Steve and a stripper pole.

During the meeting several students and community members said that the board may not be serving the students of Clackamas Community College to the best of its abvility. Several of them confronted the board on issues involving the responsibility for school debt and the availability to have a dialogue with all board members. There were also allegations of college president Joanne Truesdell displaying unprofessional behavior.

DSLR cameras for dummies

By Nathan Sturgess Associate Photo Editor Along with the many regular courses Clackamas Community College offers, there are quite a few one credit specialty classes open to students who would like to get familiar with subjects that are new to them. One such course that was offered recently was a digital multimedia communications course that explained the

ins and outs of digital filmmaking specifically with digital single lens reflex cameras, or DSLRs. In the schedule of classes it was listed that Andy Mingo, one of the DMC program’s regular instructors was teaching the course. But in reality the instructor was Justin Alpern, a locally based filmmaker who has extensive experience with these relatively new cameras. Alpern has also worked quite a bit with Mingo, most recently as

Mingo’s director of photography for his latest film. The course was so informative that Mingo also sat in on the class, hoping to increase his knowledge of this upand-coming digital medium.

The course was held Feb. 4-5, and students got lots of handson experience with these very capable cameras. Students even got to make use of some of Alpern’s own professional equipment. They learned about cam-

era settings and techniques, the correct use of lighting with the cameras and how to manage the digital files they created during the class.

Alpern explained how digital acquisition of video has been a huge leap forward in the film industry.

“DSLRs are here to stay. They have made huge inroads and, as far as technology goes, I think I can comfortably say that it’s the

fastest new technology to infiltrate its way into television and film production. The whole digital revolution is paramount to (the introduction of) sound in the industry,” said Alpern. What intrigues Alpern about this new technology is how it has leveled the playing field for filmmakers so that high-quality films can be made by people who may have never been able to afford it.

“With digital of any variety, be it a DSLR or an iPhone, filmmakers of all shapes, sizes, (and) backgrounds can learn how to shoot film,” said Alpern.

Alpern himself has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and has only recently considered getting a master’s in film.

Jason Jould, a student attending the class, is looking to get a double major in film theory and production.

“I’m very creative but I’m not very technical; becoming very technical will make me self-reliant,” he said.

Jould wants to make his own feature film and he thinks using these new cameras is his only shot to get it down on a small budget.

Another student, Christian Reid, is studying water and environmental technologies, but he has friends that work with film that he would like to work with.

For Reid, water and environmental technology is his fallback job.

“What I really want to do is get into stuff like this (class) … and filmmaking,” Reid said.

For Alpern, a danger of this new ability is that filmmakers won’t spend the time to learn about the history of film and the traditional methods of filmmaking. Being able to just go out and try new things is a positive aspect for Alpern, but he still recommends that aspiring filmmakers familiarize themselves with traditional techniques.

Letter to the editor: Student elections show disrespect To the college community: We the undersigned are compelled to express our very serious concerns for how the Associated Student Government controls the electoral process in a way that prevents the very democratic principles and processes that all of us veterans sacrificed for globally.

When CCC bills itself as the “veteran-friendly” campus, it should make sure that when veterans return from fighting for democracy overseas, we come back to a college that actually practices real democracy here at home, so that it doesn’t make a mockery of our service. In short, we need to practice what we preach.

The ASG Constitution has a clause that requires a student to be selected by the ASG, not the student body, to serve for two terms before that student is even allowed to run for Student Body President or Vice-President. Does it even make sense to require two terms in ASG before one is “qualified” to run in a two-year college? More importantly, this is exactly how the Soviet Union, North Korea and Saddam’s Iraq rigged the political process to give their unlawful regimes the veneer of “consent.” Each of us served in wars against these very undemocratic regimes, so it adds insult to injury (all of us will be forever changed because of our military experiences) to be told that this despotic practice occurs on the campus we attend all under the guise of a “representative” body.

As political science students (and professor), we are also concerned with what we’re teaching students about the American political system. The American Revolution was all about preventing the rise of a “noble class” of persons who would maintain exclusive control of the governing process while enjoying privileges and perks not available to all (see Article I, Sections 9 and 10 and the 14th Amendment). Is it no wonder that the political class, both locally and nationally, are so disconnected from what’s going on in America when schools like CCC create this very mind-set in their so-called “student governments.”

It is insulting to every adult who attends this college to be told you are old enough and experienced enough to die for your country, lead a company of troops in combat, be

a mother or father, business owner, President of the United States, a member Congress, a governor or state legislator, but somehow we aren’t “mature” or “experienced” enough to run a student government. It is also a slap in the face to the entire student-body for the ASG to determine who we can elect to these important positions.

That is not what America stands for, and we won’t stand for it either; after all, we know what it means to fight for democracy, and we will continue to do so here at CCC. We call on the student-body to join us as we rewrite the ASG Constitution so it allows for the democracy that so many of our countrymen and women have given their lives to defend – and are still doing so today.

Spring into action: race for coveted classes; sign ups begin next week

It’s that time of the term again. With most midterms over, it is time to start dreaming of what classes to take next term. Spring registration opens on Feb. 22 for returning students and March 1 for new students.

Picking out new classes can often be the most exciting part of the term for students. Student Yvonne Ochoa said she was excited to sign up for her classes and had already decided she would take advanced piano because she finished beginning piano this term. Other students pick their classes based off their degree requirements.

However, if other students should find it difficult to decide which classes to take there are ways to get help making the decision. According to Miguel Cardenas, an adviser on campus, students who are struggling to decide which courses to take can make an advising appointment. This way, an adviser can help you decide which classes to take based on your goals.

In the past it has frustrated many students trying to register.

“When the system is down, it needs to be improved,” said Ochoa.

“I would advise that students not get online right at 12 and instead wait 15 minutes,” said Tara Sprehe, the Clackamas registrar. She said that unless a student is concerned their class will fill up in the first 15-20 minutes, they should just wait.

“If the system crashes for one person it crashes for everybody,” she said.

According to Sprehe, the college is exploring new options, but if changes are made they will not happen until summer term. “We try not to do anything new until summer,” said Sprehe. “Every time

you change something it is hard to get communication out there.”

For students who go to register for classes only to find the class they want is full, there are still options. They can be put on the waitlist if there is a one for the class or show up to the class the first day and see if the teacher will be willing to sign them into the course. Also, students hoping to get in to a course should continue to check the website as it is always possible that a student may drop the class, leaving an open seat.

“If the class is full, don’t give up hope,” said Cardenas.

Whatever classes students are deciding to take this term, whether they need to rush to the computer at midnight or they can wait until the next morning, registration is coming up soon and it is time to start making that sometimes easy, sometimes difficult decision about what classes to take next term.

UNREST: Board members, attendees whipped into frenzy Continued from Page 1

With board chair Richard Oathes absent, vicechair Jane Reid was in charge of the meeting, a first for her. As the board prepared to leave to take a tour of the call center, Tara Darris, wife of political science instructor Dean Darris, interjected that the board was trying to avoid an issue from the previous meeting.

“I’m a concerned citizen and I was under the impression that this meeting was starting at 5:30 p.m. so that we may voice our concerns for what took place at the last meeting. And now I’m concerned that you’re trying to avoid the situation,” said Darris.

“As a concerned citizen that pays taxes, I want to voice my opinion and I want it to be heard.”

Darris was trying to confront the board as to why the specific testimony last month from student Robert Brown did not appear in the minutes of the previous meeting. Brown gave testimony last month that he had talked to both the college administration and the college senate about alleged slander against certain instructors on campus. He did not specify any instructors.

Darris continued to interrupt several times during the meeting and vice-chair Reid had to continually remind her that the citizen’s comments were scheduled at 6:45 p.m. After the meeting several students, who know Darris through her husband, said that they were appalled and disgusted with how she was treated. Later when the board returned, Reid commented on the nature of the citizen’s comments portion of the meeting.

“It’s available for anyone who desires to speak on issues before the board. To ensure consistent treatment, the board requires that comments from the audience sheet be signed in. The form indicates that comments are limited to three minutes, and respectful consideration is expected for all comments and individual personnel issues or concerns must not be discussed in a general public meeting,” said Reid.

Reid then altered the agenda and pushed the citizen’s comments portion of the meeting forward.

During this portion students such as Marlo Smith

came to the defense of Darris, demanding an apology from Reid and warning that the board’s behavior threatened their position.

“Many of you on the board and in the audience were responding to her in a manner that is highly disrespectful to a member of your community,” said Smith. “And if that is how you want to conduct yourselves in the presence of someone who has a grievance, then we are going to seek our grievances through elections. Because tonight, as I’ve seen, you don’t hold us with the respect that we’re due as citizens of this community.”

Board member Ron Adams addressed his feelings on the matter of respect. “I’ve been in legislature, I’ve run meetings; they tend to go to hell quickly if there’s not mutual respect. And I guarantee that I will respect you at least as much as you respect me.

So it’s a two way street,” he said.

Later in the meeting the student’s public display of disapproval further continued as student Stephanie Halstead came up to address unprofessional conduct and demanded an apology from president Truesdell.

“When you were leaving for your tour I was speaking from the ‘peanut gallery,’ and … you decided that an inappropriate and offensive hand gesture was the way you would like to respond to me speaking, particularly when you flipped me off. I am wondering, is that something you do often?”

Truesdell said that she was “taken aback” by the comment and denied the allegation both during and after the meeting.

The meeting was not all about addressing the character flaws of others, though. Robert Brown, a veteran and CCC student, asked the board how much debt the school has from previous bonds and loans, how much of the $130 million bond is for infrastructure upgrades and why and for what the college has earmarked $20 million of the bond.

“It’s important to understand whether you have other bonds in place because that means we have a debt from previous years that’s unpaid, and now you want to saddle us with another $130 million,” said Brown. “If you have too many dollars that you’re worried about, you can’t worry about the student’s

education. And we can’t forget that our reason for being here as a student is not money, it’s not roofs and things of this sort, it’s classrooms.”

Brown did not receive an answer but was told that it would be best if he submitted a written inquiry so the board and the administration could prepare a response to accurately answer his questions. This response was repeated several times during the night, and several people asked why their questions were not being answered and why these meetings were not a place for dialogue.

“We are not the managers of the place,” said Adams. “We hire the managers and we let them manage. If we hear something that sounds like it’s not being managed, then we will ask why. But we’re not going to get in a dialogue in a public forum.”

Truesdell commented that the monthly board meetings are business meetings and not necessarily a place for dialogue with the board or board individuals, and that citizen comments were usually about the board’s business.

Reid was very surprised on how much conflict there suddenly was at the meeting.

“In my four years on the board I have not encountered anything like this,” said Reid. “I’ve never been at a board meeting where there were any kinds of outbursts that we experienced, so it was a real challenge to be sharing it and then having to deal with it.

I wanted to make sure that people felt like what they said was respected but also knew … what the limits of our abilities to comment are.”

After the meeting, Halstead and others felt that the board’s decision to not comment on the questions asked was ridiculous.

“If these people are supposed to be representing us and we need to go talk to their representatives to talk to them, I feel that is contradictory on many levels,” said Halstead. “If they are our representatives then we shouldn’t have to go talk to their secretaries.”

Both sides in this meeting made it clear that they felt very strongly about their views, whether it be a need for structured, civil comments or the right to confront representatives directly in an open forum.

Education, private and corporate worlds alike all feel the sting of empty pockets and are forced to tighten their belts to compensate. Usually, the arts are the first things to go, what with schools deeming them an “extra” amenity and it being ever more difficult in this economy for a professional musician, artist or thespian to make enough money to get by.

It would seem that the end of the age in which a young man or woman can create for a living is imminent, but in spite of adversity, artists and musicians thrive. The key to their survival is the same as in any other field: diversify.

“The trick about making it as an artist for many years is to have more than one thing that you’re good at, and so if you’re wanting to have a career as a performer, the secret to your life and being successful is to have other forms of income,” said Dave Mills, band director at Clackamas Community College.

Mills suggested that student’s get a degree in order to find a job that will support them. Then they can still make music, paint or act and not worry about putting food on the table.

“It’s really important that anybody that’s venturing out realizes that the kind of job that they want to get has medical benefits and retirement, and if that kind of job can allow you the freedom to still perform, that’s really a good way to go,” said Mills. “Any career that you look at, when you start to climb that ladder, whether it’s corporate or private, the people with the degrees are making more money than the people without.”

They weren’t that interested in the degree; they just went there because there was an opportunity to play,” said Rose, who did the same thing when he was in school. “My music professors didn’t care about my music theory grade, they just wanted to get me a gig.”

important thing. It doesn’t matter if your mechanic has gone to school and has a degree; if he can’t fix your car, you won’t return and give him business.

People skills, focus, dedication and direction are the most important qualities you can learn in school. Those that leave with a degree in their hand but don’t have an ounce of what it takes to get ahead in this world have simply wasted their time.

Lonnie Cline has been at Clackamas directing choirs for 30 years, and the advice that he gives is that even if you aren’t looking to major in music, art or theater, having experience in those fields will still help you in the working world.

“On your resume, when somebody looks and sees that you’ve been heavily involved in the arts and humanities, they’re going to be more likely to hire you than somebody who has a whole bunch of credits in chemistry, and biology and mathematics,” said Cline.

He also said that even if somebody was looking into a music degree, they should get a strong minor. That would allow the degree holder some flexibility in their career and still leave the performance window wide open.

ew Orleans is known for many things: Hurricane Katrina, Mardi Gras and jazz, to name a few.

Musicians such as Buddy Bolden, “Jelly Roll” Morton and Antoine “Fats” Domino paved the road for jazz in Louisiana, making the state a national icon for the genre.

But every once in a while, we see a shift in where talent is produced. Who would have thought that place was about 2,000 miles northwest of New Orleans, right here in Oregon City?

It would appear that Mardi Gras came early with this band. Known as Anonymous is a band currently attending Lonnie Cline’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble class, adding the instrumentals to the talented group of Clackamas Community College students.

Playing together for close to five years now, Ryan Antoine (drums), Wesley Mason (guitar), Paul Paresa (piano/vocals) and Bryan Edmiston (bass) perform outstanding rhythms that I can only describe as being the offspring of jazz and swing, should they get together and elope.

Known as Anonymous puts together a mix of sounds so smooth and lively that not dancing to the music is hard to do.

Paresa plays the piano with such perfection that the vibe is actually not much different from that of Jelly Roll Morton’s “Honky Tonk Blues.” Antoine drums like Bernard “Bunchy” Johnson, putting emphasis to the Southern-style jazz. Mason plays guitar with

rhythms sounding shockingly like Little Freddie King, and Edmiston strums the bass and looks like a back-in-the-day beatnik, adding a flavor hard to find in mainstream music today.

If this were a group of older, experienced performers I would not be that taken aback by their skill. The fact is, though, this band just graduated high school. That’s right; this is their first term at CCC, and they already have the sound of experienced musicians.

At this point, the band tells me that they are still trying to perfect their recordings and sound and do not yet have anything other than their demo. You can hear one of their very, very early songs “We Don’t Play” by searching for Known as Anonymous at youtube.com, but I must stress that the video does not do justice to the work you would witness today.

“I have this mixer that I came across and we use that. It’s pretty decent for just a home place, amateur thing. It gets the job done,” Antoine said.

“We are working on a lot of recordings,” Mason said.

Now although there is no easy way to listen to this group of reincarnated jazz/ blues/swing Louisiana musicians, you have a chance to hear them live at the Roseland Theater this Saturday, Feb. 19 at noon when they perform for the Next Big Thing Tour.

So if you’re looking for something to do this weekend, make sure you stop by to support your fellow classmates by checking out Known as Anonymous.

21+: Sake - discover appreciation for a long-lived favorite

hen you think of sake, what do you imagine? Dragoncostumed men running down a street in a festival? Yakuza men in the movies preparing to show the world of organized crime who the real bad mama jamas are?

Whatever it is that comes to mind, sake seems to be at the center of Japanese culture for the common western mind in more ways than sushi, karate or ninjas ever could be.

Sake is a referred to as a rice wine, though this is very much an incorrect translation from Japanese. Sake is no more a wine than it is a beer.

After all of the stuff I’ve seen on TV and in the movies, I have to admit I was kind of freaked out by the idea of drinking sake.

I remember seeing Christopher “The Highlander” Lambert choking on it in “The Hunted,” and then groaning one word, “Sake?”

The idea has always freaked me out to be honest.

I poured a glass and, as I always do, I smelled it first, but there was no aroma to speak of. The cold sake looked like a goblet full of water at some fancy restaurant, like Olive Garden or anywhere that they don’t serve up your drink in a mason jar. I am starting to see how people get so easily fooled by the appearance.

To make matters worse, I was told the brand I bought, Gekkeikan, was a horrible one and that it was good for nothing except cooking, like table wine but worse.

Hesitantly, I lifted the glass to my lips and took my first taste.

There was a surprising sweet and bitter flavor to it. I was impressed, so I had more. After the initial bout with my fear of sake, I have to say that for a cheaper bottle ($7) it wasn’t terrible. In fact in some ways I would consider myself a fan.

So after all of this I decided that if I am going to really learn to appreciate sake, I should probably try another brand. This time

present aroma, almost floral in nature. The first sip was smooth and sweet with no bitter flavor at all.

So much for sake being an acquired taste; this took me all of three sips of two different types to acquire a taste for it.

Is it just me, or does every culture refer to the alcohol native to their homeland as either “The drink of the gods,” or as “water of life”? Sake is no different.

Though sake can be traced back about 4,000 years to ancient China, the Japanese were the first to polish the grains of rice to create the refined sake we know today.

According to Asianartmall. com, “The earliest ‘polishing’

was done by a whole village: each person would chew rice and nuts and then spit the mixture into a communal tub – the sake produced was called ‘kuchikami no sake,’ which is Japanese for ‘chewing the mouth sake.’

According to me, that’s freakin’ nasty.

So now what do I do? I plan a trip to the sake distillery in Forest Grove to check out the facility (to read the web-exclusive story, go to twenty-1plus.com after Sunday, Feb. 20.)

Wrestling wins season, Region title

By Robert Morrison Sports Editor They might have been all over the rankings this year but they are always No. 1 in our hearts; the Clackamas Cougars have fought hard all year to stay atop the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings. This year the team saw some big wins in competitive matches and some hard fought losses on the way.

The team finished with a very stout 11-3 record that gave them the No. 2 rank, improving on their 7-4-1 record from last year, heading into Region 18 Championships.

“Our biggest win this year I would have to say (was) National Duals in Iowa,” said Matt Melendrez, a freshman that wrestlers at 157 lbs. for the Cougars. “We all set goals at the tournament prior to that and we all met our goals.”

The Cougars won three matches at nationals to bring home another National Duals title to Clackamas. The team went an impressive 3-0 during the duals, beating No. 8 Iowa Central, No. 5 Labette and then top ranked Harper. The team won in dominant fashion, outscoring their opponents 81-32 in the duals. Both Iowa Central and Labette finished ahead of the Cougars in

last year’s NJCAA championships.

As a team, the Cougars only lost three times this year.

The team started off rough, losing their first two matches to North Idaho College and Simon Fraser University, but then they pulled off seven straight wins before their third loss to a tough North Idaho team.

“Our biggest loss had to have been this last time we lost to North Idaho because we didn’t have a full lineup, we had some forfeits,” said Kegan Handlovic.

Handlovic is a freshman who wrestles in the 125 lb. weight class for the Cougars.

Handlovic moved across the country from Easton, Penn. to wrestle at CCC. He said that he uses that and the distance away from his daughter as motivation for his own personal improvement.

Many of the wrestlers hate to see the season come to an end soon and will miss the team. “(I’ll miss) being with the team all the time. We have all become really good friends,” said Billy Goldsberry, a freshman in the 149 lb. weight class from Albany, Ore. The distance the wrestlers will spread will soon become even greater, with Goldsberry moving onto Southern Oregon University to continue wrestling, Handlovic getting offers from many schools, as well as many other wrestlers receiving offers to wrestle after CCC. Among the others is AllAmerican Terrence Williams who received an offer from Oregon State University.

The team has improved over the course of the season, losing to just one team in their last 11 matches. Many players have improved and a lot of them agree that they have a great coaching staff that has helped the whole team do better.

The team showed this mindset as it entered their Region 18 Championships.

After years of being runners-up, the Cougars got some satisfaction by going head-to-head with top ranked North Idaho College.

Clackamas had seven wrestlers representing them entering the finals of the championships with more than half of them wrestling against North Idaho. Martin Gonzalez, Cody Randall, Derek Mestrovich, Terrence Williams, Brett Sanchez and Tyrell Fortune all won indi-

vidual championships for their weight classes while Billy Goldsberry earned second place in the 149 weight class.

Matt Melendrez finished third and both Kegan Handlovic and Brett Fredickson finished fourth. Clackamas ended up beating North Idaho by 12 team points.

OSU’s wrestling coach Jim Zalesky led many four-year school coaches that were at the championships. OSU has already received commitments from both Williams and Fortune to wrestle for them

next year.

After a great show at Regionals the Cougars’ wrestling team looks to move on to the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA rankings heading into Nationals.

Men’s basketball moves forward The men’s basketball team may have lost their game against Lane Community College on Jan. 29, but that doesn’t stop them from moving on in hopes of winnng the Southern Division League Championship

By Nathan Sturgess The Clackamas Print Coming off a loss to Lane Community College on Jan. 29, the Clackamas Community College men’s basketball team was quite surprised. This was only the second loss of the season, the first being to Mt. Hood Community College, but it effectively moved Clackamas into a three-way tie for second place.

Several of the players mentioned that team chemistry on the court needed improvement and probably aided in bringing the close loss to Lane.

“We had a couple little problems with team rules and stuff,” said guard Kirby Hawkins.

The team had a private meeting a few days after the game, without any coaches present, where they resolved their internal issues and refocused on their main goal of winning the Southern Division League championship.

“We had a team meeting the other day and it really helped us think. We were having some problems behind the scenes and they’ve all been cleared up. We’re going to go forward from here and everything is going to be positive,” said Paul Walter, co-captain of Clackamas’ team.

Another factor that led to the loss against Lane was Paul Walter’s hip injury, which made it impossible for him to play during that game. At the time this really concerned Clif Wegner, head coach for the men’s

basketball team. He said that Walter was a really strong asset on the team, both as a point scorer and as a leader.

Luckily for the team, Walter was deemed able to play in the Feb. 5 game against Chemeketa Community College, scoring 10 points and leading the team to a 31 point spread victory, Clackamas’ biggest win this season.

Overall, the team is very driven to win the league this season. Even after

the loss to Lane, the players were confident they could get back on track.

“People are on board and they want to win the championship,” said Max Jacobsen, an up-and-coming post.

Wegner had a more reserved tone.

“If we can win the league, great, but the most important thing is to be playing our best basketball; at the end of the year be healthy and positive,” he said.

In terms of logistical strengths, both Wegner and Walter were happy about the team’s offensive game.

With an overall shooting average of about 50 percent, the team feels pretty good about its position. Defensively, the team is still struggling to find a rhythm, but looking at the most recent game’s score, that may be falling into line.

With four games to go before the championship, there is still a lot that could happen this season. But with Walter back on the court and team spirits having been tested and tempered by a little adversity, the last third of the season promises to be energetic and exciting.

T

he crowds cheered as we stepped out onto the floor, and the music coursed through my veins. The moment that I turned around, I knew that all the practice was worth it.

This past Saturday, I performed at the Molalla High School dance competition along with about 13 other alums at the start of the second round.

Alumni performances are always crowd pleasers, something I had known from my years on the team. Something about seeing former dancers doing what they loved and having fun doing it was always a highlight during the long days of competition.

Our own alum team this year had members from the past three decades. Terry Shankle, the coach of Molalla’s middle school dance team, hailed from the class of 1977, and she was joined by her daughter Tessa from the 2009 class, her sister Tracy Cox, class of 1979, and her niece, Diana, class of 2001.

The family of dancers had been practicing together whenever possible for the past month, and if it weren’t for Tessa, I probably would’ve made a big fool of myself as she helped me after I had missed several weekend practices.

Other members of the alum team included All-State sisters Amanda Stephens (Class of 2008) and Kasey Stafford (Class of 2001) and mother-daughter duo Tina and Bethany Hawk from classes 1986 and 2010, respectively. Tina showed the crowd that she could still do the splits after three kids and 25 years.

like a mini-reunion. I got to see some friends that I had missed since I graduated in 2007. Tessa and I practiced at the college in between classes, catching up while we caught our breath. Chariss Ellis, also from the class of 2008, was a friend that I had all but lost contact with and it was great hanging out with her.

It was fun, of course, but preparing for this performance included long hours of repetitively counting through the steps, committing them to memory and coming up with silly names for the moves, like “scoop that’s not a scoop” into a “row boat.”

For some, making it to every practice helped with this process.

But for others such as me, work and other priorities got in the way.

Luckily, I pulled it off with minimal mistakes. I had forgotten how much I loved performing in front of a huge crowd, and even though it is over and I’ll have to wait a year to do it again, I’m going to try my hardest to get back into dancing again.

Next week, as I recuperate from this past weekend, I’m giving up caffeine. I started on Friday, but can I really survive without coffee? Pick up a copy of The Clackamas Print next week to see.
