JOSH ELLIOTT B. 1973 There is a random beauty in nature Josh Elliott connects with. He makes the exceptional happen through oil paint and unending time in the field observing, documenting and creating from life. Josh is not rendering he is composing, and this is the great difference in truly ‘fine art’, where the artist is leaving a bit of themselves in their paintings for our enjoyment. Josh’s father Steve Elliott, an accomplished wildlife and landscape painter in his own right, had a profound influence on his dedication to absorbing nature through personal observations and portraying that ambiance on canvas. Capturing the natural world runs deep through the Elliott family tree, boasting three generations of esteemed wilderness artists. Inspired and supported by his wife Allison, a gifted orchestral violinist and his two musically inclined and talented girls, Josh’s world is surrounded by beauty.

FROM THE FIELD TO THE STUDIO Josh’s process
Painting outdoors is a reaction to what is in front of me, where studio painting is more of a reflection of who I am in response to nature… — Josh Elliott
…however, without the fundamentals of painting outdoors I would have trouble painting a convincing scene.” In the studio, Elliott has more freedom to experiment and focus on what makes a good painting. He believes that if he has an emotional response to a scene, the resulting painting will find an audience, “It is important to me to share a connection with the viewer, where we are both celebrating the beauty around us.” The art we resonate with shows us a potent vision of the artist’s world, and Elliott aims to have the same impact on his viewers. Josh’s growing recognition in the art world continues to impact the audiences and his list of accolades and exhibitions prove the path he is on will be a long and bountiful journey.
