Preface 這是我的第一本出版品，裏頭收錄了這幾年較重要的畫作，包括「國王遊戲」、「英雄本色」、「妖 精打架」等系列作精選，是我踏入藝術領域過程的紀錄，自 2006 年始發表作品迄今的個展分別為 2009 年「國王遊戲」(Aki Gallery)、2012「英雄本色」(Hidari Zingaro Gallery) 以及期間二十餘次 的海內外展覽。 回頭看這幾年的畫和發展時而有感，我的創作與生活有著絕對的關聯性。自 2007 年著手《國王遊 戲》的幾年之間，經過兩次工作室的遷移，並處於交際頻繁的階段，來自各方的朋友最後停留在「類 古典畫」的作品裡，有如巴洛克時期的文藝復興再現，描述了青年逗留歡場遊戲作樂的風俗情景。 2009 年有幸與村上隆先生 (Takashi Murakami) 相遇，他引導的超扁平 (Super Flat) 與普普 (Pop Art) 的組合，帶給我在視覺上不小的衝擊啟發，所以我選用粉系的色彩與戲謔的題材回應並表現在 作品《英雄本色》作系列中。激情過後終歸於平淡，但我本性調皮，試以「暴力美少女」+「肉慾胖 超人」+「類古典畫」組合談論當代人處世的扭曲性格，而創造了《妖精打架》充斥著拉扯與矛盾的 畫面。 雖然我接受的是正規的學院訓練，但影響我最深的作品，不是大師的鉅作，卻是紐約街邊書報攤 3.5 美元就能買到的《Art Afterpieces》，一本由 Ward Kimball 扭曲經典名作的歪書，一般認定與漫畫 同等，甚至稱不上作品，其中充斥著給蒙娜麗莎上髮捲或幫拿破崙戴墨鏡的畫面，但是這樣廉價的 幽默令我玩味。文明發展至今，人類雖然無所不知，對於客觀的知識，卻是普遍愚蠢地接受著，我 認為這是藝術家該調皮的時候了。在畫中常出現我一廂情願安排的景象，人們見了會想知道畫中角 色所指涉的意涵。我選擇了與現實有相當關聯性的題材，但希望能有開放式的描述，這和沒有結局 的電影類似，也與我認為當代藝術的功能有關－我們每天被給定許多「選擇」，也被餵食許多「訊 息」，這個年代沒有正確答案，所以主觀是必需的能力，若能提供觀者「態度」，我的作品就大功 告成，而過程就是看著我無止盡的安排著調戲與挖苦的情節。 畫中的男人、女人或是物件，對我都具有特殊的情感，這些作品在某種程度上代表著我曾經歷的 生活，是赤裸、也是坦誠的。我藉著繪畫的語言建立與現實的連結，也同時表達了自己的性格， 這是我目前追尋藝術的方式。由衷的感激曾經協助我創作的人，謝謝為我出版這本畫冊的 Rick & Emily。

This is my first publication which contains major series in recent years including “King’s Game”, “Heroes” and “Cat Fight”. It is a documentary collection of my artistic career from my debut in 2006 to the two solo exhibitions 2009 “King’s Game” at AKI Gallery and 2012 “Heroes” at Hidari Zingaro Gallery as well as other more than 20 exhibitions in Taiwan and worldwide. Looking back at my works and development these years, daily life plays an important role during the creating process. For example at the time around 2007, I moved twice of my studio and socially connected with lots of friends. Finally they turned out to be in my “quasi-classical paintings”. Resembling Renaissance in Baroque period, I depicted genre painting of young people having fun, fooling around. Later in 2009 I was honored to meet Mr. Takashi Murakami who leads the fusion trend of Super Flat and Pop Art which brought me lots of stimulation. I responded him with bright pink color and bantering topics in “Heroes”. After all those intense colors I came back down to earth. But I am a naughty person after all, so I created “Cat Fight” by using the combination of violent girls, fat heroes and quasi-classical images to talk about the perverted character and attitude nowadays.
I was trained in standard academy, however what truly inspires me is not masterpieces but a book called《Art Afterpieces》by Ward Kimball which you can buy with USD3.5 at the newsstand. He plays with famous classic works and is considered comics or not even works. The humorous representation of Mona Lisa with a wig or Napoleon with sun glasses amuses me a lot. As civilization evolving till now, human consider themselves to be omnipresent. Yet when facing objective knowledge we used to accept passively. I think it is the time for artist to being “naughty”. I arrange the scenes subjectively in my paintings that people will eager to figure out what each character relates. The open narration associate with reality is similar to a movie and the function of contemporary art
we are given “choices” and fed “information” Since there’s no certain
answers to everything, being subjective is essential. If I can provide audience with my attitude, I acknowledge my work to be successful. As for the process, is full of ironic circumstances and sarcasm. The men, women or the incident all mean significantly to me. They represent the life I went through to some extend baldly and straightforward. I associate reality with artistic language and express my own characteristic. This is the way I pursuit art for now.
