THE PROJECT A project for the student design competition sponsored by Daltile and ASID, the task was to renovate an existing space of our choice; an improved space plan, material selections from Daltile, and an interior rendering showcased significant changes for the better.
THE CONCEPT Island Market, a local convenience store, celebrates twenty years of business with a much needed renovation. Improvements center on the objectives of increasing community, convenience, and commerce through thoughtful space planning, tile selections, and aesthetically enhanced design.

BREAKROOM A central skylight, space for living greenery, and text on the floor and walls by author Henry David Thoreau contribute to the sustainable culture at Vie Headquarters.
THE PROJECT Work in a team of five to create a brand and corporate identity for a new company; space plan an existing 16,180 sq. ft. building; select commercial systems furniture, specify fixture and material selections; create renderings and present office design in a 50-page book.
THE CONCEPT A magazine company, Vie directly promotes the meaning of its title: life. To subscribe is to access insight into living deeply, responsibly, sustainably, and beautifully. The focus is awareness of environment and culture, the resulting needs and issues that relate, and the celebration of small steps towards a brighter future. Initial concept development for the design of Vie Corporate Headquarters, an open-plan office, led us to a focus on nature, and trees, specifically. Branches, tree rings, roots, and the light that filters through leaves became a springboard for an office that is defined by positive growth, upward expansion, and sustainable design. With both US and International sales divisions, as well as Marketing and Art departments, the challenges presented throughout the design phase included finding the most convenient circulation throughout the office, allowing for natural light to reach every employee regardless of their desk location, and creating a plan that was efficient, interesting, and revolved around the intent to achieve LEED rating.

ENFOLD MEDICAL SPA
TIONAL PRODUCT
A visit to the spa should be a departure- clients pay for an escape from their everyday mundane tasks, seeking to renew tired bodies and appearance. However, an unfamiliar setting and variety of treatments offered at an upscale medical spa bring an intimidation factor; Enfold seeks to provide the client with a sensation of home, and safety, in the most unique and innovative way possible. Intuitive, thoughtful design of this spa reaches out to newcomers, as well as those familiar with the experience and searching for something unconventional. A place to embrace reflection in privacy, envelop in the comforts of superior design, and embody the transformation that follows state-of-the-art treatments, Enfold is not only a spa, but an all-encompassing experience.

Healthcare design should function like a well-oiled machine, but this often leaves little room for beauty and comfort. A new Labor and Delivery Unit at Lakeview Hospital bridges the gap between efficiency and aesthetics, challenging the cliche of drab interiors and sterile white. Designed for optimum performance, as well as luxurious accommodations, the maternity wing boasts spacious rooms, refined color and material choices, garden terraces, and a modern cafe. Windowed courtyards throughout the space infuse natural light into every room and hallway, bringing both the energy and soothing qualities of nature indoors. Lakeview is design at its best: patient needs met effectively through well-planned, contemporary healthcare design, connected in harmony with a comfortable, beautiful, and natural environment.

PATTERN DESIGN RIGHT: Inspired by the form and function found in nature, we began this project by creating 2D and 3D patterns, designed from abstractions of specific elements in Logan Canyon. Tree bark, leaves, and the veins in a rock, among other discoveries, became patterns found throughout the hospital as custom tile design, upholstery, wallcoverings, and woodwork.

Like the mountain it was named for, Everest defies gravity, proportion, and architectural limits. A horizontal square footage constraint created the desire for vertical expansion, the feeling of endless space. Two open stairwells lead to six separate levels: living, kitchen, bedroom, bath, office/utility, and pool. While ten flights of stairs are not for the faint-of-heart, this home was designed for mountaineers- a couple who thrives off adventure and the view from the highest peak. Everest remains true to its namesake with its sparse, cool interiors, a blank canvas for the client’s expanding contemporary art collection. Encased almost entirely in floor-to-ceiling windows, the real artistry, and the selling point of the home, is the view: forest and mountains on 1 all four sides. Imposing, dramatic, and breathtaking, Everest exemplifies the possibilities of a home’s highest potential.

DESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT THE PROJECT Keep a visual journal of sketches throughout a month of European travels; create pattern swatches inspired by the mood, colors, and influence of each country.
THE CONCEPT The opportunities I’ve had to travel with professors and students from the Interior Design program at Utah State University have been invaluable. A trip to New York City in 2013, Italy, France, and England in 2014, and an upcoming trip to Chicago have, and will add, greatly to my education. My appreciation for art, architecture, and design is continually growing, and the inspiration I have gained from experiencing some of the world’s finest first-hand has directly impacted the way I design. There is beauty everywhere in the world, and I can find inspiration in many ways; interior design has taught me to channel what stands out to me, to learn from it, to expound upon it, and ultimately create something tied to a world of influence, but completely my own.
