which required a background story concept and high-end style design. The final poster was chosen by classmates and instructors in the competition.
CHALLENGE I created various concept illustrations, which included a story about the graphic design course, school life, and Vancouver city images.
SOLUTION
I created various concepts for the grad show poster, which included design trends and graphic design skills. The final image is a combination of the city of Vancouver and symbols of the VCC graphic design course. I wanted to illustrate stories from the design course and student life. This concept illustration received ‘Top Talent’ from the Adobe Design Achievement Award.

DIONYSUS WINE LABEL BACKGROUND
6
This is a rebranding project. I chose a local wine company, which I felt could benefit from a younger and more high-end look and feel.

CHALLENGE
I made a new brand name ‘DIONYSUS’. DIONYSUS is an Okanagan wine. DIONYSUS is one of the Greek Gods names, He is the god of the grape harvest, winemaking, fertility, and theatre in ancient Greek religion and myth. The mark on the front label symbolizes the name ‘DIONYSUS’, and the grape illustration represents the Okanagan’s famous sweet grapes.
SOLUTION
I wanted to make the images appeal to young wine lovers, so I chose wine glass images. The illustrations represent the wine and sweet scents which come from the DIONYSUS Okanagan’s wine. I made the image using the die-cut process, which allows the customer to see the wine’s real color through the die-cut shapes.

PROMOTE THY NEIGHBOR BACKGROUND
This project was for an assignment titled “promote thy neighbor (classmate)” as a graphic designer. My classmate gave me a reference image that was new to me. I created something based on the referenced style of art I was given.
8
CHALLENGE
I researched surreal images and graphic design trends, and I made rough drafts for making the concept images.
SOLUTION
My classmate wanted to see the various images, so I made two different concept images using photoshop manipulation and concept illustrations.

JJ’S RESTAURANT BRANDING Logo design process
10
BACKGROUND
JJ’s Restaurant chefs wanted to get an elegant new logo to replace the old one. The owners were using an old western style logo.
CHALLENGE
I researched brush script and bold font styles. I considered a modern logo design style as well. I also brain-stormed other designs for JJ’s Restaurant rebranding.
SOLUTION
I combined JJ’s initials and one kitchen tool image to create the new logo image, using the logo’s negative space. Also, I used a brush texture for the menu background with high-end style fonts aligning the text in the center.

GEORGIA STRAIGHT BACKGROUND
12
For the ‘Georgia Straight’ cover design and editorial layout, I focused on the Vancouver housing crisis. I wanted to document how increasing housing prices are forcing locals to move outside of the city.
CHALLENGE
After I researched the housing crisis article, I then gathered images of the city, money, and people. In the illustration, I used a metaphor to compare people to hermit crabs in how they move to new homes when it grows out of its body size.
SOLUTION
I combined the hermit crab’s shell and the Vancouver building images to portray the Vancouver housing crisis. The man below the big crab shell image represents local Vancouverites.

DIGITAL ART MAGAZINE BACKGROUND
Digital Art is a magazine about graphic design. It includes tutorials, trends, design history and more.
14
CHALLENGE
I chose to make a Digital Art Magazine. First I decided to break the grid because I felt the art magazine needed a new fresh and bold layout.
SOLUTION
To give the magazine a personal touch, I used images and tutorials from the YouTube channel Digital Art, which I own. A digital art magazine is a publication where the main topic is art. I also produce educational tutorials and articles for creative inspiration for graphic and interactive designers. My Digital Art Youtube channel provides tutorial videos and free sample files.

CHALLENGE

LIFE-BUDDY APP BACKGROUND
18
The goal of this project was to have one place for all types of freelancers to sell their skills. It also helps connect seniors with careers to teens or students who need work experience. Individuals can also mentor people who have a specific skill or trade.
CHALLENGE
I researched the target market, and I made the platform easy to read and follow. By drawing the infographics and illustrating the information, I was able to help the user have a better understanding of how the app functions.
Logo design process & Color scheme
SOLUTION The UI/UX platform includes the members’ data and their skills. It provides the user with a faster and more accurate search process. The app provides user points which they can use to pay for services.

CLOUD21 WEBSITE & APP BACKGROUND ‘Cloud 21’ is a B2C platform website. The website supplies space for freelancer artists, so they can sell their art to companies and people who like to buy special artwork.
20
CHALLENGE I created three major pages: a main page, a shop page and a portfolio page. They needed different themes, so I drew illustrations to explain information on each page.
SOLUTION I made the pages include artists’ profiles and art works. The artist can sell their artwork through the shop page. I used vivid colors for the illustrations on every page, which will be eye-catching.

BLOOM & GLOW APP BACKGROUND
Our team created environmental packaging for cosmetics. We chose a sustainable package because single-use plastic packaging is bad for the environment since it is made from non-renewable crude oil.
22
CHALLENGE
Our team considered using a bamboo lid instead of plastic because bamboo grows rapidly and is organic and biodegradable. Also, we chose glass jars instead of plastic since glass is easily recyclable and is not produced with harmful fossil fuels. The package will have seeds hidden inside that will bloom once the box is planted and the seeds will correspond with the scent of the moisturizer.
SOLUTION
I created UI/UX design for the mobile app. Also, I put the QR code scanning page where consumers easily can find it on the package. By scanning the QR code with our app, users can connect to the Bloom & Glow website.
