WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Students develop professional and social skills through interaction with performers, clients and peers; as well as theoretical and technical knowledge and understanding which allows creativity to be harnessed in the design and production of media products. Students develop conceptual ideas, and visualise these throughout the production cycle; from planning and pre-production through to editing, postproduction and presentation of products. They also analyse target audience requirements, research market demand and bring a media concept alive working in line with legal and regulatory requirements, in a safe and effective way, protecting themselves and those they work
with from injury or harm. Students also gain an understanding of how different businesses and organisations in the media sector work. Students study 3 mandatory units: Media Products and Audiences; Pre-Production and Planning; Create a Media Product.

Students choose 2 optional units: Social Media and Globalisation; The creation and use of sound in media; Advertising media; Plan and deliver a pitch for a media product; Scripting for media products; Create a personal media profile; Cross-media industry awareness.

This course is equivalent to one A-level.
WHAT NEXT? This course can lead to a degree or other further course of study in digital media or alternatively lead into an apprenticeship or straight into employment. However, this is a highly popular and competitive field, so experience is critical. Motivation and persistence are key when applying for jobs.
WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT
Summer placements, part-time and voluntary opportunities give useful work experience and some courses offer the opportunity to undertake a work placement with a media or related company. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop practical and professional skills and to make industry contacts.
