• Both papers are 1 hour and 45 minutes long • Fiction Focus • Read unseen texts • Creative writing • 4 questions to answer about the texts AQA English Language – Paper 2 • 1 writing task to complete • Non Fiction Focus • 19th and 20th century texts • Writing to argue


AQA English Literature – Paper 1 • Macbeth • Jekyll and Hyde AQA English Literature– Paper 2 • An Inspector Calls • Relationships Poetry • Unseen Poetry

• 1 hour 30 mins and 2 hour 15 mins exams. • Closed book • Paper 1 (Macbeth and Jekyll and Hyde) have an extract printed on the paper- must know the whole text. • Students must compare poems • Must memorise quotes and know the whole text in detail.


Succeeding in GCSE English • Assessment is 100% exam based • The papers are long • The exams are closed book • The mark schemes are rigorous • The texts are challenging

Supporting your daughter • Discuss current affairs and read newspaper articles together.

Download The Guardian’s app. • Check Show My Homework for home learning and discuss tasks with your daughter • Re-read literature texts at least three times • Students have been given copies of the texts which should be heavily annotated. • Students will be given home learning booklets to support revision. • Put revision material up around the house (key quotes, mind maps).

Practical Skills • No coursework on the new GCSE specification • We need to confirm with the board at the end of the year that your daughter has completed all practical activities. • Good atendance is essential • Practical questions will make up to 1/3 of questions on the exam papers • Exam practice is increasingly important


Foundation or Higher? • All science exams must be taken in the same tier • Tier of entry is confirmed in March • Foundation papers can achieve grades 5-1 • Higher papers can achieve grades 3-9

The first science exam is on 14th May and the final exam is on 14th June.


Supporting your daughter • Encourage your daughter to practise questions • Use a ‘litle and often’ approach • Ask if she has checked against the specification/revision guide • Check all three sciences are being revised at home • Purchase revision guides, or swap old OCR revision guides for AQA • Ensure that she atends lessons up to her final exam • Test her on her physics equations (p145 of planner)
