Part 3: From Space to Architecture

We arrive at our destination ‌.

By Clare Lahiff (@clareuna)

Part 1 What I have learned I have learned so much from this and the earlier parts of this course. For me perhaps the most important thing I have gained is the confidence to submit my ‘art’ works to the scrutiny of others. Indeed, even to create ‘art’ is a new endeavour for me. Always in the past I have felt a wall impeding me. Here the requirement to stay atuned, to create a work daily, to see and take in the work of others, has unlocked a part of my brain I thought was missing. I have much to learn but I want to keep on in this direction. I so value the opportunity I have had to be part of this wonderful community.

Part 2 What I have learned from others I have seen many wonderful images while doing this course and have crossed paths with many wonderful and generous people. I am so appreciative of the fact that people of great talent

have been so positive in their comments.

That certainly

engenders a confidence in someone operating in a new milieu. While I know I have missed some images I have seen many on Instagram and I can honestly say I have not seen one that does not have some special merit and distinctiveness. Whether this has a lasting effect on my image-making remains to be seen. What follows is an incomplete and in no particular order selection of images that were of particular resonance.

What I have learned from others Grace, beauty and sheer creativity

What I have learned from others Colour, beauty, composition

What I have learned from others Creativity, great delivery and just plain gorgeous!

What I have learned from others What can be done with colour, and without it!

What I have learned from others Some images have magic!

What I have learned from others Haunting, sweet, powerful, amusing.

Part 3 My architectural space My architectural space is bounded – by right angles, by limits of imagination, by pedantry and inflexibility.

But I think it

does exist, and this course has done much to counter my inherent incapacity. I have enjoyed it so much and would wish to continue so that I might learn to use curves and other angles and to work on the rigidity.

Maybe one can even learn to

become more imaginative – I guess it’s a matter of exercise, as with the mind and body!
