JOIN US FOR FAMILY WEEKEND!
February 18-20, 2017 | Interact with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and other parents to experience CMC first hand. Dear CMC Parents, On behalf of the CMC Parent Network, we would like to invite you to join us for Family Weekend, Saturday through Monday, February 18-20, 2017, at Claremont McKenna College. Programming begins the morning of Saturday, February 18th. Join the hundreds of family members who travel to CMC and take advantage of this opportunity to spend time Together at CMC! Parents of freshmen through seniors are encouraged to attend this fun-filled and informative event, designed to give visitors a taste of campus life. All family members are welcome, although it should be noted that most activities are not geared to children under 16. An exciting program with panel discussions, interactive learning opportunities, lectures, informal get-togethers, athletic events, classroom visits, and student entertainment has been put together for your consideration. Plan to attend classes on Monday, February 20, which is a holiday for most parents, but is a regular class day at CMC. A list of classes open to parents will be available at check-in. Of course, spending time with your student with be an important priority, so it is recommended that you discuss the program of events with your student, and try to reserve a time slot in his/her busy schedule! Please ensure that all guest names are included with your registration form as nametags for all attendees will be provided. Please note that programs offered during Family Weekend are not designed for children under 16. We highly recommend that you check with your student regarding his/her academic schedule during Family Weekend. Why should my family participate? Give your family a taste of life at CMC. There are many events planned for the weekend that will appeal to all. This is a great opportunity to become better acquainted with the campus and to spend time together at CMC! Will my student be able to participate? Students are encouraged to attend all portions of the weekend and are sent an invitation with the schedule. You may wish to discuss the activities with your student and confirm his/her availability for the weekend.

Scott Sherman, Senior Director of Social Innovation and Co-Curricular Programming, Kravis Leadership Institute Scott Sherman, renowned social entrepreneur and social innovator, started his work on the leadership team at Kravis Leadership Institute (KLI) in August 2016. As the first Senior Director of Social Innovation and Co-Curricular Programing, Sherman is helping to develop some of the best programs in the world for social innovation and provides guidance to help CMC students lead meaningful lives in which they do good in the world. 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

SOURCE SOURCE Nonprofit Consulting is a student-run group devoted to creating sustainable solutions that build capacity and increase efficiency in nonprofits in the greater Claremont community. Join SOURCE for an interactive demonstration including an inside look into a project scoping model with the option to participate in a real-life case study with representatives from a local nonprofit. 2:45 – 3:45 p.m.

Ellen Rentz, Associate Professor of Literature Professor Rentz is an expert in medieval literature and teaches courses on Chaucer, Dante, gender studies, drama, and medieval literature and culture. William Ascher, Donald C. McKenna Professor of Government and Economics Director, Roberts Environmental Center Professor Ascher is the 2016 G. President Hiram Chodosh and his wife, Priya Junnar Chodosh, invite parents and students to this informal reception at the President’s House. Built in 1903, the President’s House is one of the oldest buildings in Claremont. Designed by Arthur Benton, an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright, the house has all the requirements of Classic American Foursquare design, while incorporating Craftsman detailing.

Roberts ’66 P’93, the Roberts Pavilion is the spectacular new fitness and events center for Claremont McKenna College and the athletic center for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps intercollegiate, intramural, and physical education programs. Designed by the award-winning creative team at John Friedman/Alice Kimm Architects, the LEED Gold-certified Pavilion features a state-of-the-art fitness center and a generous venue area with a seating capacity of approximately 2,200, which provides hosting opportunities for important college and community events. PARKING
During Family Weekend, you are welcome to park in any available legal parking space on the CMC campus. Bauer Center parking lots (500 East Ninth Street) are the best places to park as they are closer to the area where activities for the weekend are held and also have many accessible parking spots. Additional parking is available at the CMC parking lot at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center parking lots (Sixth Street). Vehicles that are parked in a manner that may impede the flow of traffic or response by emergency vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense without prior notification. Vehicles left unattended in a red zone area or parked in a handicapped space with no placard will be ticketed. The City of Claremont will issue tickets for illegal parking on city streets or in fire lanes, and for overnight street parking.
WEATHER
Please bring clothes suitable for cool weather and remember that it can be quite warm as well. In case of rain, outside activities will be moved inside or cancelled. We suggest you check the weather report before you leave home.
DRESS
Dress during the weekend is casual and comfortable. If you plan to attend the dinners at the Athenaeum on Saturday or Monday, business attire is preferred (no shorts, jeans, or t-shirts). Don’t forget to wear your CMC gear to root on your Stags and Athenas!
