Chris hundt - on the line

ARTIST TALKs

Chris trained at the National Art School Sydney and has had more than 60 solo and group exhibitions spanning a period of over 40 years. Chris is interested in the portrayal of ordinary living, women’s lives and domestic work. She began painting washing lines about 30 years ago and found the subject amusing and sublime. The banality of the Hills hoist holding fabric that illuminates in the sunlight, shirts billowing out with self importance and garments wild-dancing with the unseen wind, all tell a story of the everyday life.

Enjoy artists talks with Chris Hundt, Rindi Salomon and Andrew Shillam as they describe their art making inspiration and processes.

Photographic abstractions The exhibition draws on Monash Gallery of Art’s (MGA) nationally significant collection of Australian photography. The MGA is the only cultural institution in the country, regional, state or national whose collection is focused solely on Australian photographs.

A Monash Gallery of Art Travelling exhibition.

Photography is traditionally recognised for its ability to record and document the world. However, photography has from its inception also been tied to abstraction. The photograph’s ability to show and explain the world has overwhelmed its equally significant ability to render the world strange, beautiful and ambiguous.

PRICE: Entry by gold coin donation

Photographic Abstractions explores this aspect of photography through the work of Australia’s leading photographers from the 1970s to current times. 40

Aboriginal Prints from Near & Far

not for ambition or bread

This exhibition presents prints created by Aboriginal artists from our region and from remote communities across Australia. Until the 1990’s most prints by Aboriginal artists were produced in print workshops in the major southern cities of Australia. Many of these were printed at the Canberra School of Art, Canberra, and the Australian Print Workshop, Melbourne. Since then print workshops have also been held in remote communities across Australia by master printmakers who travel to work with the artists.

Regional artists Andrew Shillam and Rindi Salomon share an attitude influenced by Bob Dylan’s words `Not for ambition or bread’. They make art for the love of creating and not for monetary reasons.

WHEN: 25th March – 10th May

WHERE: Grafton Regional Gallery - Loft 158 Fitzroy Street, Grafton

WHERE: Grafton Regional Gallery - Main (West) 158 Fitzroy Street, Grafton PRICE: Entry by gold coin donation

Shillam and Salomon work closely together sharing space, thoughts and process. In abstract form they bring together sculptures and paintings that reflect people in the urban landscape.

SKATEBOARDING Workshops

Skateboarding australia

Skateboarding Australia (SbA) promotes the growth and development of skateboarding in Australia. Our role is to develop skateboarding at all levels and to increase opportunities for skateboarders.

WHEN:

The main activity is the StreetWise clinics, taught by dedicated skateboarders within the local scenes, which are all about getting beginners into skateboarding and developing the skills of those already riding. Out of the skatepark, our Cruiser clinics at scenic location share the joy of rolling as a means of transport. SbA is the fundamental platform and linkage between the Federal Government and the Australian skateboarding community.
