Artist Clare Newton is asking students and staff at UEL to kick start a collaborative project which should not only make them an integral part of a major exhibition at ExCel during the London Olympics but also land them firmly in the Guinness Book of World Records. Between November and the beginning of the London Olympics in 2012, Clare will be travelling throughout London collecting tens of thousands of images of people mid-jump for what will go on to make history as the world’s largest photograph, and she’s starting things off at UEL. The final image could measure up to 5 metres high by 1.5 kilometres long, using the very latest state-of-the-art technology to create. Each participant will be clearly identifiable in the final piece and contributors are invited to sign their image at the exhibition, which is expected to draw crowds from around the world.
