PROJECT BRIEF As art can be one of the best method to solve and tackle this issues, we are required to design and proposed the Art Development Centre for street children as to develop their skill and talent at the same time change their future into more better and meaningful life. “Art opens everything up to such a bigger spectrum of people. And this is why I personally believe art is powerful, because art saved my life‌â€? - David Tovey, Artist, Museum of Homelessness, Tate Exchange Naturally, all human have their artistic elements inside them. We can see all kids are growing and learn using art such as singing, drawing, play with blocks etc. Therefore an art is a good general element in a child development. It can develop their motor skill, language development, decision making, visual learning, inventiveness, cultural awareness, and also can improved academic performance. In this project, we need to proposed an architectural spaces that can respond to the programs for the Art Development Centre. This proposal needs to respond the surrounding context, social, culture, activities and architecture. The Art Development Centre should provide opportunity for visitors from all ages to engage and interact in the art activities, while contributing to the children and the centre. It needs to have an interactive element that will create awareness among the locals and the public about street children. This project will be a collaboration of local government and Non-Government Organization (NGO) and also will be involve by the locals/public around the area. Sites was given to us situated in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur. Client of this project will be Yayasan Chow Kit.

PRELIMINARY STUDY AND SITE CONTEXT

This Task requires students to conduct preliminary studies on the Art Development Centre in an urban setting and site context. A holistic analysis on macro and micro is essential to be carried out in achieving the project aim and meeting the community needs. In specific, students will investigate the urban and site issues as well as its potential to answer the future challenges.

TASK 2 : SITE PLANNING As the project is Art Development Centre (ADC), we are required to design three type of ZONING; • Main gathering area (Multipurpose Indoor/Outdoor Hall or any similar function) as the main building block. • Common area (café, services, toilet, surau, circulation, & etc) • Supporting area according to the result of site context analysis and the individual design idea and concept. Total built up area of this project is 1,500 sqm - 2,000 sqm. At least 40% of it should be allocated for the main gathering area and common area, where as the rest are for the chosen supporting facilities. The three zoning can be designed to attach/link each other or separated. To plan and design those three zoning within the site, site layout planning needs to be carried out. To do so, we need to do suitability site analysis on the site divisions that suits their project. This also has to be done based on the analysed site context. Then, this stage also requires us to have conceptual plan of spaces, building massing, and overall concept of the project.
