Welcome to North Carolina The Optical Communications division of Corning, is based in Hickory, North Carolina, a state renowned for offering all of the advantages of city living and proximity to the great outdoors. Hickory is part of the Greater Charlotte metropolitan area, an easy one-hour commute to the nearby cities of Asheville and Winston-Salem. The 40,000 residents of Hickory enjoy a moderate four-season climate and an abundance of recreational and cultural activities.
