La Traviata
2016 Season August 11-14 fingerlakesopera.com
Message from the Maestro Ciao, Cari Amici, It’s my genuine pleasure to introduce the third season of Finger Lakes Opera at SUNY Geneseo. We bring Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata to the main stage, complemented by this year’s lightly-staged production of Irving Berlin’s musical I Love a Piano. Verdi’s classic contains all of the trappings of operatic charm, and who doesn’t enjoy Berlin’s songwriting mastery. With professional singers and musicians on board, it’s going to be another captivating season for you to enjoy. The success of our company has been exceptionally satisfying, thanks largely to the many patrons and other supporters who have graciously joined us in bringing opera to this region to help enrich the cultural life of its residents. I hope you will join us this August for both productions, and please encourage friends and family to follow suit. It will be an unforgettable experience—guaranteed. Cordiali saluti, Gerard Floriano Artistic Director

Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin Conceived by Ray Roderick and Michael Berkeley The orchestra and cast of performers take center stage in this concert-style music celebration that follows the journey of a piano as it moves in and out of American lives from the turn of the 20th century to the present. The story unfolds in musical numbers including classics like “Blue Skies,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” “God Bless America” and many more. Both heartbreaking and hilarious, rousing and reflective, this retrospective is a true tribute to an American legend.
