UPDATES: CAREER & VOLUNTEER Marie Kilker ’54 appeared on “Daves Gone By” (NYC) in an extended television interview about how she became interested in theater first through movies and obtaining autographs. She also participated in Unity Theater film in St. Louis on work and friendship with Ralph GreenObituary tribute to leader of black theater.

Sue Riedel ’68 was featured in Clarke University’s virtual event “Building the Field of Dreams” in November 2022. In the hour long special, Sue reflects on her role in helping to bring the Field of Dreams movie to Dyersville, IA and shares the story of how she came to find the farm that would eventually become the iconic set where Kevin Costner played a final game of catch with his dad and captured the hearts and minds of baseball lovers across the nation. Natalie (Jankiewicz) Bogan ’82 works part-time for East Central Indiana CASA as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children.

LaDonna Manternach, BVM ’82 was elected President of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and began leadership in August 2021. Thomas Schwartz ’92 was named combined Chief Operating Officer/ Chief Financial Officer for Robins Kaplan LLP, a national trial firm. Schwartz joined the firm in 2019 and brings 30 years of experience that spans several industries. He was recently named a Notable Leader in Finance by Twin Cities Business, in large part for his quick work in adapting Robins Kaplan's finance and accounting systems to a remote-work model when the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of the firm's offices. Joel Moore ’94 was promoted to Chief Nursing Officer at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, IA.

Kathleen (Dolphin) Kaufman ’95 graduated from Marian University in Wisconsin in 2006 with a Master's in Organizational Leadership and graduated from Liberty University in Virginia in May of 2021 with a Master's in Human Services Counseling and Life Coaching. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology through Liberty University. She recently left a supervisory job with the State of WI to be at home with her children while they were in distance learning during Covid. In the last year and a half, she has published four children's books. She started blog and is working on a book series for 8-9 year old and a self-improvement/ leadership book for moms.

Monica (Reyes) De La Cruz ’97 was elected to the Clarke University Alumni Association Board. Her term will begin in Fall 2022.


Chad Schockemoehl ’97 was promoted to Senior District Sales Manager at McGraw-Hill in Dubuque. Ardell Sanders ’99 was elected to the Clarke University Board of Trustees. Cathy (Knott) Walz ’99 was appointed by the Archdiocese of Dubuque as the new Superintendent of Catholic Schools. She will begin her leadership role in July 2022. Walz has been working in archdiocesan Catholic schools for 22 years.

He now exhibits across the country with galleries and in juried art festivals. Henri's work has been added to many public and private collections and he is consistently creating new work. Joann Talarico ’01 was hired as Graphic Design Manager at Dubuque County Historical Society. Andy Schroeder ’02, ’10M joined the Board of Directors for Opening Doors in Dubuque, a nonprofit organization that helps women and children who are experiencing homelessness. He also serves on the Development and Marketing Committee for the organization.

Katy (Dickinson) Wethal ’99 was elected to Dubuque City Council for Ward 4. Katy works as a nurse practitioner at Medical Associates and resides in Dubuque with her husband, Bob Wethal ’97 and their three children.

Clifton Henri ’01 was featured as the Alumni Spotlight artist with a solo exhibition in Quigley Gallery at Clarke University from March 7-April 2, 2022. Henri is a nationally acclaimed, award-winning photographer from Chicago, IL. Following his time at Clarke, he went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design

Ellen Goodmann Miller ’03 was appointed to Dupaco Community Credit Union’s volunteer Board of Directors. She currently works as a community and resource development specialist for Gronen and provides resource development, grant writing, strategic planning and political consulting services through Hawks Goodmann & Associates.

Katie (Bahl) Steffensmeier ’04 was elected as President of the Dubuque Jaycees Board of Directors for 2022. Katie is currently employed as the Economic Development & Community Outreach Coordinator at East Central Intergovernmental Association.

Greg Deutmeyer ’06 was named as the new principal of Epworth Elementary School, effective July 1, 2022. Deutmeyer has spent his 13-year teaching career in the district, teaching special education at Cascade Elementary School, then serving as an instructional coach at Cascade and Bernard elementary schools. For the past 7 years, he has acted as an instructional coach at Epworth Elementary. Tony Breitbach ’07 was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor of Chemistry at Clarke University. Annie (Mormann) Koelker ’07 was promoted to Art Director of Experiential Design at McCullough Creative. She has been employed with the company since 2011.

Matt Boleyn ’08 established his own practice as an Attorney and Mediator at Boleyn Law, P.C.

Colin Muenster ’08 began his new role as the Theatre Director in Residence at Clarke University in March 2022. Muenster is an alumnus of the Drama program at Clarke and has served as cast and crew for Clarke Theatre productions both as a student and later as a community member. Before this role, he served


as the Enterprise Architect with the Information Technology Office at Clarke University. Prior to his time at Clarke, He spent five years at Wahlert Catholic High School teaching English, theatre, and video production, as well as serving as the Director of Theatre Arts.

Haris Takes ’18 established Dubuque County Basketball Academy and serves as the owner, program director and coach. Dubuque County Basketball Academy is a year-round basketball club focused on developing the mental and physical skill sets required to be a successful basketball player. DCBA works with kids through their AAU club teams, after school enrichment programs, camps, training sessions, leagues and tournaments for kids around the tri-state area.

Montez Thompson ’21 began his new role as a Casualty Claims Representative at Cottingham & Butler.

Dan Spain ’10 Earned his 300th career win as Head Baseball Coach at Clarke University. He is the only Head Coach in program history to reach this mark. Spain has served as CU Head Baseball Coach since 2012. Traci (Johnson) Yeo ’14 relocated from North Carolina back to Dubuque and brought her business, Royal T Princesses and Superheroes, with her. Customers can have a character, such as a Disney princess or superhero, come to an event and partake in live vocal performances, photos, and crafts. Yeo started her business in 2017 after touring with the National Theatre for Children.

Eric Jones ’19 was elected to the Clarke University Alumni Association Board. His term will begin in Fall 2022.

Elena Dominguez ’20, ’21M began her new role as Development Officer – Digital Communications at Clarke University in February 2022. Stacy Latnie ’15, Head Track & Field Coach at Madonna University, was recognized as being National Coach of the Year in 2021. Additionally, the men’s track and field team won the 2021 Outdoor National Championship that same season.

Emma Liddicoat ’21 is a 2022 graduate from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Upon passing boards this June, Emma will begin work as a Medical Lab Scientist at Mayo Clinic.

Emily Sass ’21, ’22M was promoted to Case Manager at Maria House in Dubuque. She began as an intern for the organization and was previously a part-time Program Advocate. Gianna Garza '22 began working at Mass Interact, a google certified company that provides virtual 360 tours of campuses worldwide.

Tucker La Belle ’22 was named Head Coach for Men’s Lacrosse at Clarke University.

Ruth Ann Gaines ’69 was named a recipient of a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Humanitarian Service. She was also nominated in the category of Outstanding Achievement. Her Distinguished Alumni biography may be found at clarke.edu/alumni-awards. Additionally, in April 2022, Des Moines’ East High School auditorium was named in Gaines’ honor. Charlotte Ashton ’71 was nominated for a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Outstanding Achievement.

Jenifer (Collins) Westphal ’84 and her production company, Wavelength, were honored with winning Best Documentary Feature at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival for the film, The Cave of Adullam.

Peggy (Opper) Gulick ’90 was inducted into the Women in Manufacturing Education Foundation’s (WiMEF) Hall of Fame. Gulick was one of nine female leaders welcomed to the Hall of Fame with a ceremony and gala in October 2021. The Women in Manufacturing Hall of Fame honors women who have made outstanding contributions over the course of their established careers in manufacturing. Recipients include women who are dedicated to supporting, promoting, and inspiring women in the manufacturing industry. Roger Fuhrman ’94 was honored with a "Top 100 Tech Innovators and Influencers Award" by Prism Events, Inc. at the MGM Resorts International in Las Vegas on June 22, 2021. Fuhrman was given this award for his lifetime contributions within the Technology market. He is currently an Executive Vice President at GrowthZone headquartered in Nisswa, MN. InterCon primarily comprises achievers from the

As Head Coach for the Hoover High School Boys Soccer team, Jon managed a 16-5 record and the most wins in school history (16). Hoover High School is located in Des Moines, IA. Patricia Marroquin-Norby ’99 was nominated for a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Outstanding Achievement.

Sam '06 and Shelly (Reittinger) Murley '09 received the Dubuque Main Street 2021 Best Total Building Rehab Award for their careful renovations and restorations of the historic Montana House. The building is located at 245 West 1st Street in downtown Dubuque.

Chris Brewer ’13 was named a recipient of a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Rising Star. He was also nominated in the category of Outstanding Achievement. Additionally, Brewer's company, River City Logistics Inc., was recognized by the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) as runner-up for Small Company of the Year in 2021. Kaveria (Allen) Lezza ’13 was nominated for a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the categories of Rising Star and Humanitarian Service.

Stephonie (Ogden) Schmitz ’06 was nominated for a 2022 Dubuque Women’s Leadership Network Women of Achievement Award. Callie (Mescher) FitzGerald ’07 was nominated for a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Humanitarian Service.

Jared McGovern ’18 received the Bohumil Shimek Environmental Educator Award for outstanding efforts by an environmental educator. This award is given by the Iowa Association of Naturalists and the Iowa Conservation Education Coalition. It recognizes an educator for innovative environmental education programing. McGovern currently works as the Curator of Conservation Programs at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium in Dubuque. Additionally, McGovern was named a 2021 Telegraph Herald and Biz Times Rising Star. Andrew Willems ’18 was nominated for a 2022 Clarke University Distinguished Alumni Award in the category of Rising Star.
