Multidisciplinary studies

Jointly offered by Clarkson and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the Bioethics Program provides competencyand skills-based education in clinical ethics, research ethics and bioethics policy. The Bioethics Program is one of the healthrelated programs in Clarkson’s Lewis School of Health Sciences.

The Bioethics Program uses a hybrid approach to learning. Students take a mixture of online and on-site courses, which use case studies, supervised exercises and innovative real-world simulations. This multidisciplinary graduate program is designed to enhance the career and educational opportunities for those interested in topics such as confidentiality and end-of-life decisionmaking, research with animal and human subjects or access to healthcare and allocation of healthcare resources. Students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some are MDs, JDs, RNs and PhDs currently working in healthcare, research and policy. Others are post-baccalaureate students who want to pursue careers in clinical practice, research oversight or public policy or want to improve their prospects for admission to professional degree programs.

As I work with resource allocation, policy, individual consults and government agencies to ensure responses with a strong ethical underpinning, I remain grateful every day for my bioethics education.”
