What is The Clarkson School? The Clarkson School (TCS) is an experience unlike most other early college options: a residential, full-time program, housed in a nationally recognized research university, that replaces the last year of high school. The combination of atmosphere, opportunity and affordability makes TCS truly unique.

TCS is... ... A close-knit living-learning community of ~65 like-minded students from across the country and the world.

... A safe, supportive environment, with staff located in the same building as student residence hall rooms and a low student-toadvisor ratio. ... An opportunity for highly motivated and talented students to begin an independent college experience while still having a layer of oversight, safety and guidance. ... An affordable year of college education with an incredible return on investment.

... A fully immersive college atmosphere, including activities such as varsity athletics (18 Division III and two Division I teams) and 200+ on-campus. ... A hands-on, high-impact experience at a world-class educational institution with opportunities like cutting-edge research, co-ops and internships, global travel, project teams, business plan and innovation competitions and more. ... A competitive advantage for students looking to be accepted into the most highly selective colleges and universities nationwide.

The Goldwater Scholarship is one of the most prestigious awards a college student can receive. Higher education institutions nominate four students per year, and ~336 scholarships are given out annually. 2021 is the 22nd consecutive year that Clarkson students — including many TCS alumni — have received this highly coveted award.

The team won for their business, KLAW Industries, which turns recycled glass into a pozzolan that is used in concrete manufacturing. KLAW Industries, founded in January 2019, was selected to join The Cube, a special studentbusiness accelerator, hosted by Clarkson’s Shipley Center for Innovation, that gives students dedicated project teams, seedstage capital and access to a network of attorneys, accountants and investors.

Clarkson School students are college students; we do not grant high school diplomas. However, students who wish to earn a high school diploma, or its equivalent, have three options. Students can: • Receive their high school diploma while enrolled at TCS. This requires working out a plan with their high school ahead of time. TCS personnel will assist students, families and their high school with this process. In some cases, students can schedule their required high school classes in the first semester, which allows them to complete diploma requirements prior to the start of the spring semester. • Apply for a diploma from the New York State Education Department after successful completing 24 Clarkson credit hours in six different disciplines. (This is possible to do during their year at TCS.) • Take the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC).

I am so appreciative for everyone in The Clarkson School! Nikki has flourished in the environment all of you provide. – Julie Rizzo, mother of TCS’20 student

Why TCS? Our students explain the Top 5 Reasons to attend The Clarkson School:

5 4

Be Part of a Close-Knit Community Each year, TCS welcomes a class of approximately 65 students who are ready to be surrounded by like-minded, focused and driven peers. They live together in a separate residence complex, work together on projects and school work and experience college life and the world together. Our students support each other and create lifelong friendships. “Family dinners” are a time honored and favorite tradition.

Take Advantage of the Clarkson Experience Clarkson is already known for being a national research leader, providing an education rooted in innovation, sustainability and technology and consistently producing graduates with some of the highest starting salaries and placement rates in the country. The residential, 640-acre wooded and waterfront campus is a close-knit community, home to over 3,300 undergraduate students, over 200 student clubs, 18 Division III athletic teams and 2 Division I ice hockey teams.

You are all such a blessing, and I truly couldn’t have done this without The Clarkson School experience. Columbia was my top choice! — Taylor Ormasen TCS’20, currently attending Columbia University

3 2 1

See the World With TCS-Only Travel TCS boasts a wide range of special activities, including three annual school trips voted on by the TCS student body, plus the Global Business Program class, in which students can travel abroad to countries like Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland.

Perform Groundbreaking Research TCS students are not your average college student. Each year, several TCS students are also members of our Honors Program, performing research alongside faculty experts, publishing peerreviewed papers, presenting at conferences and receiving awards such as the Goldwater Scholarship, which recognizes the top undergraduate researchers in the country.

Stay Ahead of the Curve Starting college early also means an academic challenge that simply cannot be found in the senior year of high school. It also means starting a career or graduate studies early too. TCS alumni go on to do incredible things — attending other universities, pursuing advanced degrees, innovating to improve the world and leading in the workforce.

Where will you go after TCS? While about 50% of Clarkson School students decide to continue their studies at Clarkson, many pursue the remainder of their undergraduate education at other institutions. Colleges recently attended by TCS alums include: Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences American University Boston College Boston University Brown University Carnegie Mellon University Case Western Reserve University Columbia University Cornell University Dartmouth College Georgetown University McGill University New York University Princeton University

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Stanford University Syracuse University Temple University The University of Chicago Tufts University University of California, Berkeley University of Michigan University of Pennsylvania Washington University in St. Louis West Point Yale University

–TCS– An early college program at Clarkson University in which talented and motivated students replace their traditional senior year of high school with their first year of college.

The Clarkson School The Clarkson School (TCS) is different from other early college programs. Through TCS, you’ll gain a competitive advantage by having a fully immersive college experience — including living on Clarkson’s campus and taking courses alongside Clarkson students — instead of commuting to a community college or taking courses online. As a TCS student, you’ll live in a residence hall, join on-campus clubs and sports teams, participate in early internship and research opportunities, build your resume and professional networks, and have the reliable support of student mentors, house advisors and dedicated staff to make the experience one that is both personally and academically fulfilling.
