The Clarkson School (TCS) is an early college entrance program that replaces the traditional senior year of high school.

Students take regular college classes with Clarkson University first-year students and live on campus in a residence hall reserved for Clarkson School students. At the same time, students are immersed in a supportive environment with specialized programs and activities that bridge the transition between high school and college. After students complete the year, they can continue as sophomores at Clarkson University or move on to other prestigious colleges and universities.

Taylor is dual enrolled in both TCS and the Honors Program. She came to TCS to avoid a stagnant senior year in high school and gain a competitive edge for college applications. Taylor spent her year at TCS as a physics major, but she continued on as a political science major with a concentration in prelaw at Columbia University. During her time at Clarkson, she was the Class of 2023 Steering Board representative and the chief yearbook editor, and she sang in the Golden Knotes a cappella group.

After spending nine years in Singapore, Leon lived in Potsdam for seven years before joining TCS. He had completed most of the challenging courses at his high school, so TCS was an opportunity for him to pursue more difficult and interesting classes in every subject, especially mathematics. An applied mathematics and statistics major, Leon swims competitively on his club team, Northern TRIBS Swimming, and his local high school’s varsity team. Even though he takes all of his classes at Clarkson, he finds time to occasionally play in his high school’s band during the week. While Leon was accepted to several prestigious schools, he is now attending Yale University.

Morgan came to The Clarkson School ready for not only a break in the monotony of high school but also for the academic and social challenges and opportunities that college brings. She worked in Professor Susan Bailey’s evolutionary microbiology lab. When not in class or doing research, Morgan rowed for Clarkson Crew and participates in Pep Band. Morgan chose to continue her studies at Fordham University, where in 2020 she was one of 396 students nationwide to be named a Goldwater Scholar.

David is currently in the Honors Program and was named a 2018-19 Goldwater Scholar. David began his research the summer before his Clarkson School year, exploring 3D motion capture, as well as combining the information from thermal and depth cameras to generate predictive models of everyday phenomena. High School Diploma Options Clarkson School students are college students; we do not grant high school diplomas. Students who wish to earn a high school diploma, or its equivalent, have three options: • Earn your high school diploma while enrolled at The Clarkson School. This requires working out a plan with your high school ahead of time. Clarkson School staff can assist you. In some cases, this can be done over the summer or during the first semester at The Clarkson School. • Apply for a diploma from the New York State Education Department after successful completion of 24 Clarkson credit hours in six different disciplines. (This is possible to do during one year at The Clarkson School.) • Take the TASC Exam.
