Instructions for students participating in the Quiz Competition at the International Conference on Purananuru (ICP) Students in grades 9 through 12 in any high school in North America are eligible to participate in the Quiz Competition. Students who want to participate in the Quiz Competition should register for the Quiz Competition at the Conference website (www.classicaltamil.org) no later than June 30, 2013. Students interested in participating in the Quiz Competition should also register for attending the Conference. They may register along with their parents. All participants and their parents are responsible for their own travel and accommodation. The Quiz Competition will take place during the three days of the Conference. Depending upon the number of students who participate in the program, there may be several rounds of competition. The final session of the competition will be on the main stage of the Conference in front of the audience. All the questions that will be asked in the Quiz Competition will be based on the essay, “A Brief Introduction to Puranaanuuru� by Dr. R. Prabhakaran. This essay can be found in the Conference website. All participants are expected to memorize poems 182, 183, 192 and 279. These poems are marked in bold letters in the essay. The decision of the judges shall be final. It is anticipated that the students participating in the Quiz Competition will get help from their Tamil teachers or parents to understand the essay. However, if a student is unable to get help, he or she can sign up for help while registering for the competition. Coaching will be provided through Teleconference for those who register for help. The first price will be $500 or an item of equivalent value. The second price will be $250 or an item of equivalent value. Finalists will be awarded certificates in appreciation of their participation.
