GAME & MEAT

YOUNG GROUSE

The red grouse is a medium-sized game bird. Birds breed in the UK in the uplands of the north and west and are resident all year round, travelling very little in their lives.

MALLARD DUCK

The mallard is a large and heavy looking duck. It breeds in all parts of the UK in summer and winter. Mallards in the UK may be resident breeders or migrants - many of the birds that breed in Iceland and northern Europe spend the winter here.

TEAL DUCK

Teals are small dabbling ducks. They are thinly distributed as a breeding species with a preference for northern moors and mires. In winter birds congregate in low-lying wetlands in the south and west of the UK. Of these, many are continental birds from around the Baltic and Siberia.

All birds available as Oven ready or New York Dressed (head + feet on)

WIDGEON DUCK

The widgeon is a medium-sized duck. Birds breed in central and northern Scotland and also in northern England. Many birds visit the UK in winter from Iceland, Scandinavia and Russia.

PARTRIDGE

Small, medium and large-sized gamebirds. Grey partridge are traditionally found in lowland arable areas of Great Britain. Red legged partridge is an introduced species, brought to the UK from continental Europe, where it is largely found in France and Spain.

PHEASANT

A large, long-tailed gamebird. They were introduced to the UK long ago and more recent introductions have brought in a variety of races and breeds for sport shooting.
