The West Country is the largest, most agricultural region in England. Its environment is one of the richest in the UK. The geographical area consists of the six counties of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire, which together make up the West Country region of England. In January 2014, Protected Geographical Indications (PGI’s) for West Country beef were recognised by the European Commission and published in the Official Journal of the EU.

To comply with the requirements of the ‘West Country Beef’ scheme, producers are required during the inspections to demonstrate the cattle are born, reared and finished within the West Country region.

The scheme also requires an extensive system to ensure the health and welfare of the stock based on The Five Freedoms.

From Premium English Fruit The Wilkin family have been farming at Tiptree, Essex, since 1757, and making quality preserves since 1885. They grow a wide range of traditional English fruits and use them to make products free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

The farm is LEAF Marque accredited (Linking Environment And Farming), recognising that they work sympathetically with the environment and encourage links with local community.

They received their first Royal Warrant from George V in 1911, and remain Royal Warrant holders as purveyors of Tiptree Products to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

In 1946, André Ponthier and his wife founded their fresh fruit company. They expanded, buying more land and planting apple trees, blackberry bushes and raspberry canes
