Résidence Jean Moulin. Rehabilitation of a residential complex of 7 buildings and construction of 34 new apartments. Jean Moulin Residence is social housing complex at Le Bouscat. The project includes the rehabilitation of 7 existing building (152 apartments) and the construction of a new one. Specific tools of renewal and exploitation are proposed to modify the imagine of this residence, an intervention that is not naïf at all: new relationships with the environnement are created and new uses and housing spaces are promoted. The densification sees the construction of a new building of 34 apartments, on 5 floors. The new building is naturally inserted in the regular and rationalist texture of the complex, but with contemporary volumes and language. Six volumes are joined among them through three vertical shaft and connecting blocks, constituting a single building, crossed by the nature on the ground floor. The facades have been studied in their complexity and variety, imagined as filters whose connotative features are able to connect the new and the existing ones. The treatment of the external spaces includes the rearrangement of the gardens and the redesign of the walkways,to encourage residents’appropriation of these spaces. New green spaces are created at a closer human scale and with specific utilities. Renovation: 13000 m². New building: 3300 m². Budget: 12000000 €. Status: under construction.

The facades have been studied in their complexity and variety, imagined as filters whose connotative features are able to connect the new and the existing ones. Here a preponderant horizontality, alternated by vertical sequences, corresponds to the use of the residence allowing to regulate the heights of the parapets and integrating a solar protection system, by preserving the views on the garden from the inside of the apartments. Each apartment has a double exposure, the living area opens to the garden with a south-facing balcony while the bedrooms are north-facing. All services are organized in a central core, optimizing the organization of electrical and plumbing installations. Legend: 1. Reinforced concrete wall. Finishing: smoothed, lacquer. 200 mm. 2. 2015 - 2016 ARTOTEC Architectes Associés Project phases: APS. APD. PC. Lège Cap Ferret. France

VVF holiday Resort. Multipurpose Centre and Childhood Centre. This building will be located on the eastern boundary of the plot, in close proximity to the existing reception building, and will be divided into two zones: the first one is a multipurpose space dedicated to shows and seminars, the other one is designed to accommodate a young and adolescent audience. Visitors will arrive in both areas through a porch strewn with metal round pillars which take up the language of the existing reception building and the verticality of the maritime pines. A second pedestrian access will be provided from the main avenue. The building will accommodate up to 1100 people, corresponding to the size of the village. The main volume will be dedicated to the multipurpose hall, divisible into three rooms according to the requirements of the site’s programming. There is a bar directly overlooking the lobby. The secondary pavilion will host youth rooms and an entertainment office. The facades of the animation building overlooking the internal square will be glazed and permeable to light, allowing to identify the spaces of hall and entrance and creating many games of reflections with the trees. The east and west facades of the multipurpose room and the facade of the young party overlooking the Avenue will be clad in powder coated aluminum, folded or smooth according to the drawing. They will be marked by occasional openings that stop in correspondence of technical areas and lodges. Existing area: 9300 m². New building: 1365 m². Status: under construction.

Le jardin suspendu. La Buttinière. 105 apartments, commercial spaces, parking, innovation poles, students residence. The Buttinière is a multimodal pole, crossroad among a parking, public transport and two great urban parks. “Le jardin suspendu” is a recovered green space that connects Parc des Iris and Parc Palmer. It is a “basement”, a new ground on which life takes shape and new fruitions can start. This space connects all the flows: from the residence to the parking, the access area to public transports, to the route between the hills and the city, to the services connected to the tramway. The architectural concept is unitary but it offers the necessary autonomy to the different entities of the program.Three principal layers have been defined to diversify the uses and their qualitative perception. The underneath layer manages the flows, it valorizes the service and commerce spaces that allow life around the future tramway stop. The intermediary layer, the “suspended garden”, organizes the residential accesses by locating them to the heart of the way to the Parc des Coteaux, connected to the city. This space protects the life quality of future inhabitants proposing green areas where people is in foreground. The upper layer constitutes the real residencial complex, located above all these activities. The towers become windows of the landscape, suspended among the trees and open on a vast view.

Le Bois Fleuri. Glamping. The project consists in the rehabilitation and extension of the Château du Bois Fleuri to create 4 hotel rooms and related activities (such as a polyvalent space, restaurant, services) and the laying of 50 habitable artistic structures. The Leitmotif is to live this park, by respecting the existing building: so the cells are designed to be integrated in the landscape. Lines between landscape and architectural intervention are immaterial and sensorial. With the purpose to answer to the needs of protection and exploitation of the site, the project is entirely hypogaeum. The brushwood is treated to realize terraces and small slants to install the artistic structures. These last will not have foundations not to alter the natural ground.

Rue Jude. 33 apartments building. The plot is located in Bordeaux, in a neighborhood of small houses, with an important green area. The construction of a social housing building in this site has to start from a deep reflection that understands the relationship between the achitecture and the landscape, the small volumes of the surroundings buildings, the intimate side... in order to do not affect the balance of the district. The project proposes a single building, located in the middle of the parcel, that keeps free the perimeter, in order to preserve the greatest part of the existing trees and the privacy. To avoid rigid volumes and to be coherent with the neighborhood, a fragmented architecture is proposed, to ensure to each apartment a more intimate relationship with the landscape / garden.

04.2017 Claudia Lo Bianco + Rolando Volzone YAC Competition. Roccamandolfi. Italy

INterCONNECTIONS. Castle Resort. The purpose of this competition is to convert a medieval fortress into an exclusive tourist facility, capable of inspiring the imagination of every tourist who visits and offering a timeless holiday. All wrapped up by the comfort of modern life mixed in with ancient remains. The starting point of this proposal for the Castle Resort is the topographical and morphological analysis of the place: the genius loci which forces the man to make compromises in order to get the chance of living into that surrounding environment. The spatial distribution of the project is suggested by the nature and the identity of the place, the purpose of this intervention is therefore to highlight its specificities and to interpret them in a new way. The paths, key component of the proposal, represents an extension of the ground: by lying down to the topography, following his curves, in adherence with it. A new character, however, is given by the walkways: more geometric and sometimes literally detached from the soil, by floating above it. This system is characterized by a main path and secondary paths, which allow the complete use of the area, and suggest framing of specific views. At this polyhedral system of paths, the architectures are almost symbiotically integrated: small modules are dispersed in the area, always with the maximum respect of the surroundings, by adjusting their shape to the topography. Even in this case, the common denominator is the reinterpretation of the place, in a more conceptual key: each element, resting on the ground or suspended above it, is arranged according to an axis that connects the castle, at the center of the intervention area, with the landscape and the valley below, framing the vegetation on which the resort is set. The starting point of the paths is the reception building and interpretation center, located at an intermediate height of the intervention, where starts the pedestrian paths which allow the access to the facilities and to the castle. The latter is imagined like an open-air museum, by hosting ephemeral functions and that can be reached in two ways: one faster, which exceeds the height difference through the stairs, and a second softer path that, through a series of ramps, allows an access for all the users.

03.2017 Claudia Lo Bianco+Stefania Lo Bianco+Rolando Volzone Concéntrico 03. Design competition and intervention at Revellín Plaza. Logrono, Spain

Observatorio de la Muralla: Redescubriendo el Revellin. Installation for Logroño’s Architecture and Design Festival. The competition proposes the creation of an intervention of temporary architecture in Plaza of the Revellín. The starting point of this project is the spatial context and understanding of its genius loci. The strong preexistence constituted by the wall Revellín requires to rethink about the relationships formed with the square. The main objective is to bring closer users of the Festival Concéntrico, and at the same time to reconnect people of Logroño to the wall and consequently, its history. The project is placed to create two areas: A. Living Space: it allows the direct observation of the wall, without filters. A space to sit and contemplate. B. Walking space: it allows partial observation of the wall that is “filtered”. The Wall as a landscape of history that is observed in movement. The morphological genesis of the installation is the result of the union of these two archetypes: the wall and the seat. Two semantically different elements that converge to form a totemic element, a strong presence in the space of the square, which shares the same square and meets the modalities of use. This new object is built by typical sections that describe different varieties of seats, assembled in a plastic al way to define a more vertical screen. A filter, made through a sequence of vertical elements, able to host users, offering relaxation, and to focus attention on the wall of Revellín.

06.2016 Claudia Lo Bianco + Rolando Volzone 24 h Competition.“Utopia: love and a hut”. Honorable Mention.

1+1 Cabine for a couple. During the symposium, the playwright Aristophanes takes word and gives his opinion about love narrating a myth. Once - he says - the men were perfect beings, not lack of anything and there was no distinction between men and women. But Zeus, envious of such perfection, split them in two: since then each of us is in constant pursuit of his own half, finding that, our ancient perfection comes back. This is the start point of our project... but how hard is this research? And if this utopia takes place, how will do this encounter? The two half-parts will redifine that original perfection? Frequently in today’s society this hut is hard to be translate in a physical location: long-distance relationships are topical, couples who have to live with their lack and for whom internet is a must have. This condition ,however, produces a development of each part, the two of them get rich of unique properties, that will give a plus value when they finally will meet and each other. Pragmatically, our hut shall consist of two distinct parts. Each one has its own personality, its space and a way of using, but their union creates new spaces of life: this whole is able to live by itself, closing to the external world, remaining invisible from the outside thanks a reflective sheathing, or it could choose to get connected to the environment, keeping a visual and enjoyment permeability. This configuration shows our hut lying on the shores of a lake: access is done by a floating pier. The door is a material element, always identifiable. Inside, two areas host different uses: a pool naturally filled of water, and a relax area, heated by a fire pit. The addicted value is to use the exterior space, on the roof, that can be reach by a staircase/ladder and saves a private and intimate trait, from where to enjoy the landscape. Constructive choices are opt for simple and lightweight materials, traditional ones such as wood for the structural elements and interior coverings. Exterior shell is a reflective aluminized polyester film.

07.2014 Claudia Lo Bianco + Rolando Volzone YAC Competition. Finalist Placement. Verona. Italy

(UN)gravity Stone. Wine culture center. Cantina Valpolicella Negrar. The challenge YAC offers the designers, is to transform Valpolicella’s old winery into an architectural manifesto – carrier of quality. A place for culture, training and tasting, a facility open to those novices or experts who will to approach one of the most fascinating human expressions: wine. The project takes form from the existing building, the winemaking tradition, the idea of the handwork... The focus is on this materiality and concreteness, the heaviness that here is reinterpreted and metaphorically and concretely eleveted in a massive block that hovers, as in the absence of gravity, like in Magritte space, over a horizon that is always visible. The celebration of the work and the traditions remain, however anchored to its roots and to the earth, into the ground.

02.2014 Claudia Lo Bianco + Rolando Volzone “Eco-Exhibit” Competition. Winner project. Bolzano. Italy

Ecological Exhibition Temporary Pavillion Materiality is a main constituent of a architectural project: a materiality often flood, heavy, protagonist. But the matter itself has little to do with the unity, already to molecular level it is constituted of aggregation between the parts and empty spaces. The structural project for Fiera di Bolzano leaves this materiality: architecture is reduced to the minimum, it loses its weight and its importance. What we can read is its trace, as if it could be possible to extrapolate its dna: a light structure, flexible, it is constituted from a module, produced by the overlap of two grates with different thickness, minimal entities that confer a emptied tridimensionality to these ephemeral walls. Adaptable to different spaces, in interior environments and external situations, the single stand is realized by basic moduls to create a surface of 20mq, the combination of varius ones create different concepts of space.
