Our Products

At Clayman Supplies Limited we are passionate about ceramics and we have been for the last thirty years from our inception. We believe using the best quality aids should make the job easier or the end product better. We are also passionate about the service we give our customers. Simply, we aim to be the best. Clayman Supplies Limited started life as Nyetimber Pottery Supplies. Reg Griggs had set up a small studio pottery, and when asked by local people if they could buy the odd bag of clay, ventured into supplying more goods. Within six months of trading it was deemed that a more appropriate name was required and Clayman was chosen as the most apt for the man who sold clay. Reg now has eighteen years’ experience teaching pottery and over thirty years potting in a full or part-time capacity. Over that time he has absorbed ceramic knowledge like a sponge and now spends each day offering technical support to amateurs and professionals alike. Having taught and worked as a professional potter he can offer advice that is applicable to the enquiry he is dealing with at any one time. Linda Griggs started life as a practice manager for a group of doctors. For more than 20 years she has brought that desire for detail and efficiency to running the accounts and despatch sides of Clayman Supplies Limited. She also brings that personal touch to dealing with customers who visit our “Potters’ Shop” or who telephone with orders. Clayman Supplies Limited started in a small way, but it has not lost the belief that all customers are important. Service is a term that we grew up with and still want to practise on an every day basis.

Wheels & Equipment The quality of the throwing wheels we offer is outstanding. We would not recommend a wheel that we would not be happy using ourselves. We have developed a close working relationship with the UK’s leading equipment manufacturer, but also offer a selection of the very best imported items.

Kilns & Accessories The kiln is at the heart of every pottery and it is therefore vital that it works efficiently and successfully to produce the results one would expect. We ensure that all the kilns we offer will not disappoint - we offer a service which, as potters, we would expect with such an important piece of equipment.

Clays, Materials etc We also offer clays, slips, glazes, colours, raw materials, oxides, frit, grogs and a range of tools for all aspects of pottery. See our general price list for all this information.

The Bailey Wheel offers the studio and professional potter a wheel of unparalleled performance and versatility in a compact and user friendly design. This wheel has been designed to complement a European style of throwing with the wheel head set at a greater height than most wheels of this style allowing a more comfortable throwing position. The wheel is powered by a super smooth 1/2hp drive that is controlled by a computer enhanced VF drive that due to its unique design can generate up to the peak equivalent of 1Hp under heavy loads this enables the wheel to give constant smooth power throughout the speed range and is extremely quiet in operation . The Bailey Wheel has a large one piece splash tray and can also be supplied with numerous options that can be added to the wheel. These deliveries are by pallet delivery service. As with all deliveries of this type, delivery will be to the nearest practicable point to the customer’s premises. The carrier will off-load the pallet but removing the equipment from the pallet and moving into position is the responsibility of the customer.

We are pleased to quote for the delivery of any kilns or associated equipment. These deliveries are by pallet delivery service. Delivery will be to the nearest practicable point to the customer’s premises. The carrier will off-load the pallet but removing the equipment from the pallet and moving into position is the responsibility of the customer. Deliveries can be made into position and installed to an existing isolator (on/off switch).

Cone Selector Guide Heating rate °C per hour

The composition and structure of cones is such that they bend and deform when subjected to heat for a period of time, (i.e. their operation is dependent upon “heat work” and not upon temperature only. They are graded according to the amount of heat they will withstand and are placed upright in holders in the kiln where they can be viewed from the spy hole.

Since their deformation characteristics mirror the maturing characteristics of the ceramic products being fired, cones provide an outstanding method of indicating heat work carried out during a firing. It is usual to use a set of three consecutive cones: one to bend below the optimum firing point, one at the optimum firing point and one above. Orton Pyro-bars are supplied for use in kiln-sitters and mirror similar characteristics to that of cones.

If you know you will not be in on the day of delivery we can instruct our carrier to leave your goods in a safe place. You must be aware though by taking this option you are accepting total liability for your order.

RETURNS, REFUNDS & EXCHANGES Returns for goods with a shelf life, such as plaster, are accepted only if the goods are damaged or faulty and must be returned within 7 days from receipt. All other good need to be returned within 30 days of receipt and in original, complete and undamaged packaging. If the item has not been returned to us in fully resaleable condition, we reserve the right to refuse a refund. At the roundabout (Bognor Road Roundabout) where the A259 crosses the A27 take the Bognor exit. Follow the road, for about 4-5 miles, to a double mini-roundabout opposite the Royal Oak Public House, painted rasberry red or maroon. Turn right at the first of the mini roundabouts, you will be in a road called Chalcraft Lane. Drive the length of Chalcraft Lane until you come to another roundabout. Turn right, drive for half a mile. You will find a sign on your right for Park Farm. Turn into the lane. There are no signs indicating Clayman Supplies Limited. ORDERS & DELIVERIES Goods are sent out on a daily basis via national carriers and a pallet delivery service. Carriage/ delivery is not included in the price of our goods. Our competetive rates for delivery are published in the Delivery Rates section at the back of this price list. Our aim is to process all orders received immediately. All orders (with the exception of equipment that are available to order only) placed or received before midday will be despatched the same day via a next working day or three working day service. You can specify your preference. Any orders received or placed after midday are despatched by the next working day. If we are unable to fulfil this aim, because of lack of stock or excess of orders we will advise you and advise when your goods should be available for despatch. We are also able to offer timed deliveries where urgency is an important factor, although this type of service does cost more. NO QUIBBLE EXCHANGE If you find the products are not what you wanted or perhaps when you try a new clay you do not like it we will exchange any unopened products from the whole of our range without fuss. We do reserve the right to make a re-stocking charge if the packaging has been damaged. Credit is allowed to Education Authorities and similar bodies and will be allowed to tother customers on receipt of acceptable trade and bank references. Payment of accounts is to be made within 30 days nett of invoice date. NON-PAYMENT WITHIN THE THIRTY DAYS WILL BE SUBJECT TO AN INTEREST CHARGE. Unless otherwise agreed, where no credit account exists, all orders must be accompanied by remittance to the value of the order including carriage and VAT. Payment may be made by cash, cheque, credit or debit card.

If possible, goods should be examined in the presence of the deliveryman and if any package appears damaged, the consigment/ delivery note should be endorsed accordingly. Customers must advise the carrier in writing of any damage within 24 hours of delivery and present a detailed claim to the carrier within seven days of delivery, with copies to ourselves.

2. PRICES All goods are invoiced at prices ruling at date of despatch and are accepted only on this basis. All prices are subject to change without notice. All prices printed in price lists, advertising matter and elsewhere, submitted in writing or stated verbally are, unless otherwise stated, nett ex-works, carriage and VAT extra.

3. QUOTATIONS Quotations for the delivery of goods, equipment and kilns will be submitted on receipt of all relevant information.

4. CARRIAGE Off-loading and moving into position is the responsibility of the customer unless special arrangements have been made.

5. DELIVERED GOODS Although we make every effort to adhere to stated delivery times, such times do not bind us and we shall be under no liability for any loss or damage of whatever nature caused by delay.

6. NON-DELIVERY/ PARTIAL LOSS In the event customers must give notice in writing to the carrier and ourselves within 24 hours of receipt of goods.
