Companion a sense of someone pacing me, betrayed now and then by drizzle and mist a wooded path edges the deep glacial lake a preference for dusk or early morning almost rain gray my unseen companion

Bay Day surreptitious sunrise splotchy dissolute mists an indifferent canopy a contemplative time

Late Day Sail daylight caught in clouded gray sudden white caps on the bay unprepared for wind and rain a sail boat hustles to harbor

Boat Yard fog charms boat yard derricks softens stilted stances as if in dance they celebrate a slow start to the day’s work

The Room he reaches the almost dawn book shadowed shelves while his city slumbers his furniture rustles awake welcomes him once again in this diaphanous hour for reasons known only to itself this Sunday’s clouded light makes an effort to be morning

Afternoon in unison the flock dips then rises across the late afternoon sky to disappear in the fir tree darkening blue soon brings the day to a close

Chickadee five inches beak tip to tail upside down in the tree in search of insects this windy rainy day

Rain quick rain at the window startled everyone in its intensity as if trying to join the conversation at the dinner party

Evening vast evening awaits stars no moon rise paves a path across the lake garden walks disappear stones hold wall’s duty to stand against intruders who make their way as quiet night prepares for dreams

Coat the coat’s exhausted seams barely keep gusty winds at bay this gray autumn afternoon momentarily startled by thin sunlight’s pale sky

Cocktail Hour the room’s worn functional furniture like the men and women quietly talking looking out the window to the garden equally in need of tending

Fall Rain in windy levitation frivolity just before rain spattered calm rambunctious leaves enliven sidewalks

Crescent Moon bare gray clouds hints of sun’s gold on island edges darkness kidnaps the bright crescent for the journey west

Mourning Morning a bedraggled morning no particular purpose hides behind the curtains waits expectantly outside the not yet opened door perhaps purpose lurks beyond low gray clouds that blanket the islands

Spider Web spider webs glint in afternoon’s slant light the large spider in rent free occupancy where flowered plants overflow ceramic pots and the deck looks to back yards and islands in ever briefer days

Morning Frost morning’s frosty silence spreads across all things as far as eyes can see crystalline white
