She memorized his poems to assure that they would be preserved in spite of Stalin’s efforts to obliterate his presence in the world. His work exists only because of her devotion and persistence. today’s book closes night cowled in deepest darkness court’s the afternoon children’s story time nib slashed light with bay shadows islands almost sleep storm clouds rushing by rain mumbles at the windows candle light flickers rain storm departing the windy moon among clouds like a call to prayer night’s seething waters winds rush into the darkness clouds moon bright edges horses in the night galloping shapes the dreamscape lustrous full moon path the heart’s silence locked open’s again with the dawn new stories begin Clayton Medeiros
