S Merwin Over The Years And a Fond Farewell always further west distant prairie horizon welcomes lightening there is no pathway trees’ reflections in the lake hold silent secrets breeze whispered answers field mice voles and foxes applaud knowingly notes float n the park music echoes times long past memory come alive cloudless lapis blue interrupts spring leaves deep sleep unfurling begins gray spring clouds warm rain the seed searches for the sky know the future tree crickets clear notes call summer night’s moonlit shadows dance in the garden winter thoughts of plums rise from the rosy fireplace wood that once bore fruit twilight’s pale shadows preceded ivory moonrise stars await their turn day break’s pale shimmer cerulean noon welcomed rosy dusk’s descent Clayton Medeiros
