“My career as an HR professional has given me opportunities to work with many people and organizations throughout the world in both the private and public sectors. There were those who I was glad to part ways with due to less than desirable experiences. These were who “talked the talk” about providing excellent service in order to get the business but when they were needed for urgent or out of the ordinary situations, they became fair weather friends and were hard to get support from. There were many others who gave the minimum needed to just get by. And then there are those who I can count by using the fingers of one hand (and have several left over) as being the epitome of excellence and the embodiment of exemplification; those who not only meet their obligations but who consistently surpass them and are true business partners. I’m delighted to put Clayton State University’s Center for Continuing Education in this category of excellence. They have been a source of great satisfaction for our business with their sincere care, flexibility, creativity, understanding, and ongoing support. I look forward to a great continuing and fruitful relationship with them.” —Luis E. Sample, Senior Manager, HR Panasonic Automotive Systems Company of America, Peachtree City, GA

Private music lessons with our faculty of professional musicians are available to the community for a modest fee in the Music Preparatory School. Piano, piano class, violin, voice, brass, and other instruments are available by request. Lessons and classes take place in the Music Education Building, adjacent to Spivey Hall, on the campus of Clayton State University. We welcome adults and children age 6 and up.

This class will sharpen your knowledge of real-world Spanish. Reading Programs for Adults, College Students, and Entering High School Seniors

Speed Reading • Comprehension • Study Skills

Speed Reading for Work, School, and Pleasure

In these programs, students make substantial gains in comprehension while doubling their reading speed. They learn the best way to read textbooks, take notes, and study for tests. Your son or daughter will complete homework assignments quickly and easily, get better grades, and become a more motivated student. Our students enjoy reading more and develop the lifelong habit of reading for pleasure.

In our adult speed reading program, you will learn to read twice as fast in difficult material, such as academic and professional journals or college textbooks. In easier reading, such as novels, newspapers, and most business and school materials, you will read three times faster. Additionally, the comprehension, concentration, and retention techniques you learn will enable you to remember more and cut down on re-reading. You’ll get more out of everything you read, and find reading more enjoyable and personally rewarding. As a special bonus, you will receive a lifetime instruction privilege, which allows you to repeat the program at any time—for free!

On Campus Schedule: Programs for entering 6th – 8th graders: Fridays, Jul. 12-Aug. 9, 2:30pm-5:00pm Tuition: $299, Materials Fee: $34 Programs for entering 9th – 11th graders: Thursdays, Jul. 11-Aug. 8, 3:30pm-6:00pm Tuition: $299, Materials Fee: $34

Teach With Us! I started the Event & Meeting Planning Certificate program at Clayton State University in 2004 to share my expertise with students interested in pursuing a career in event and meeting planning. One of my main goals was to engage the students with hands on experiences that would allow them to work “real” events.

Qualena Odom-Royes CSEP, CMP Principal Event Planner, EventEssentials, LLC Clayton State University Instructor 2004 – Current

In addition to real world experiences, the curriculum includes opportunities for students to partner with a mentor in their desired field. This real world experience produces two things, an invaluable experience along with the opportunity for students to gain exposure to networking in addition to seeing the benefits first hand. My students are able to attend association meetings and events such as, monthly meetings for the Atlanta Chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES) and Plan Your Meetings events, which enables them to build their network and make strategic partnerships for the future. I have an innate desire to learn, each class challenges me to learn something new, either from the course materials or the students. Each session is developed with the students input focusing on the aspects of event planning to include basic meeting and event planning skills. Our class capstone involves planning, coordinating and managing all aspects of a real event!
