“My career as an HR professional has given me opportunities to work with many people and organizations throughout the world in both the private and public sectors. There were those who I was glad to part ways with due to less than desirable experiences. These were who “talked the talk” about providing excellent service in order to get the business but when they were needed for urgent or out of the ordinary situations, they became fair weather friends and were hard to get support from. There were many others who gave the minimum needed to just get by. And then there are those who I can count by using the fingers of one hand (and have several left over) as being the epitome of excellence and the embodiment of exemplification; those who not only meet their obligations but who consistently surpass them and are true business partners. I’m delighted to put Clayton State University’s Center for Continuing Education in this category of excellence. They have been a source of great satisfaction for our business with their sincere care, flexibility, creativity, understanding, and ongoing support. I look forward to a great continuing and fruitful relationship with them.” —Luis E. Sample, Senior Manager, HR Panasonic Automotive Systems Company of America, Peachtree City, GA

Conflicts can be hard. Most people want to avoid conflicts altogether. Many get so emotional that they feel they can't even say a single word. Others may rely on a simple age-old technique of silence treatment, which does not really do them or others any good. What do you do when you are in a conflict? Do you just leave it and hope that it goes away? The chances are that it probably doesn't go away and will come back to haunt you. Conflicts have a tendency to escalate when untreated, they can make the environment toxic and unproductive and eventually the conflict may come to control you rather you controlling it. In this management course, you will learn how to perform conflict resolution, prevent discussions from escalating into conflicts, understand psychological tactics used on you and the best way to respond, negotiate and manage your emotions. 133CARE523B Fri Feb 8 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM CE Main Campus 1 Session $129 with Angela Etson, M.P.A. 133CARE523A Tue Feb 26 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM CE Main Campus 1 Session $129 with Angela Etson, M.P.A.

You will learn how to overcome these barriers using a systematic approach to delegation. You will be introduced to various strategies and learn what to do to get the best results. Various exercises are provided that help you build up your skills through the course using realistic scenarios. All course materials are included.

In this ever-increasing landscape, we’ve reached a point where uses can turn to their smartphones, computers or tablets and communicate their experiences with your business in real time with hundreds of thousands of peopleàand they will be brutally honest. Whether or not you are on social media, your customers have the power to make or break your brand based on how you treat them. Are you using social media to keep track of your brand? And if not, why are you leaving your brand reputation in other people’s hands by opting out of social media? This course will focus on the practices, strategies and processes small business owners can put in place to ensure they are managing their brands, communicating with customers, building their reputations by building influence, and growing a community. We will examine the various tools (video, blogging, podcasts, location, mobile, etc), crafting your brand message, creating a strategy that works for your business, measuring effectiveness of your campaigns, contingency planning, creating and using brand advocacy tools, and crafting a powerful brand experience that turn customers into evangelists (or brand advocates). We will take a look at real case studies of small businesses who were successful with their social media strategies and some who failed.

Connections to English as the first language will be heavily emphasized in this approach. (No English vocabulary allowed!) Thanks to the level of sophistication you will have attained in the immersion class, you will be able to order from the menu, critique the food, compliment the service, and find the restroom -- all in Spanish and with great aplomb. In addition to this cultural experience, you will also go grocery shopping in a local mercado and purchase the ingredients to prepare a Spanish dish for family or friends. Do you want to get more organized with your digital photo collection, or edit your digital images to make each one look its best? In just two Saturday sessions, this hands-on course covers the skills that are needed to become a better digital photographer. It begins with camera skills. The course explains the purpose of those unfamiliar controls found on digital cameras, and how they can be used to get better results. INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the case of any weather that might cause a disruption in the normal events, Clayton State University has an Emergency Weather Plan that includes the Office of University Relations contacting a wide variety of Metro Atlanta news media outlets that report weather-related closings. In case of a weather related closing, or any other type of emergency closing, the University has an extensive media contact list for such emergency situations. For information about all radio and TV outlets that will be contacted upon closing, please visit the University’s main webpage at www.clayton.edu. During any potential emergency weather situation, information about Clayton State’s plans will also be available on the University’s web page and through the University’s main telephone number (678-466-4000). Please do not call the Office of Public Safety, or the Office of University Relations. At times of bad weather or other emergencies, University officials make decisions on whether or not to close the campus based on public safety reports and other considerations. In such cases, the safety and security of the majority of students is a prime consideration. If the University is closed, then classes are cancelled for all students. If the institution remains open, we recognize that there may be special circumstances that pertain to individual students that are more serious than those that apply to the majority. So, students are advised to use their best judgment about their safety and that of their families in those situations, and to consult with individual faculty members about making up lost time. In the event that other instructional sites are closed, every effort will be made to contact students and instructors by phone and/or email. OUR BUILDING AND OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED THE FOLLOWING DATES: May 26 - 28, July 4 and Sept. 3
