Light Commercial HVAC CertiďŹ cate Program The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning program provides students with the specialized skills to perform service and repair procedures in the areas of residential and commercial heating and air conditioning. HVAC training will prepare you for employment as a heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician. Within each of these areas are opportunities for specialization. Technicians tend to specialize either in installation or maintenance and repair but it is certainly possible to become adept at all areas. Summer 2010 Enter the World of Animation [NEW]

Digital Photography I

Whether it is beautiful hand-drawn creations; ultra realistic computer generated images; or quirky eye-catching stop-motion characters, animation is simply the art of bringing things to life. Today this medium is more accessible than ever before. Led by an award winning filmmaker and educator, this course will teach students of any artistic skill level the fundamentals of animation while guiding them in creating their own animated short film. While a variety of animation forms will be covered such as Computer Generated, Traditional Hand-drawn, and Flash/Web animation, the majority of the hands-on work will be spent creating your own unique Stop-motion film.

Whether you are brand new to the digital world, or have recently jumped in, this course will take the guesswork out and help you become comfortable with this new technology that has opened up a whole new world of photographic possibilities. The course will teach you how to use your digital camera to create great photos in a variety of conditions, how to manage your digital photo files, and print your pictures efficiently from digital sources.

Drawing Fundamentals

This class will focus on creating graphic design projects and photographic art from scratch using Photoshop Elements. You will learn more in depth about modes, airbrushing, image processing, filters, etc. Handout materials will be provided. At the end of the class you will have created your own creative art piece from start to finish.

Drawing is fundamental to the visual arts, and it can be a wonderfully expressive form of art. This class is designed for students who would like to develop their drawing abilities in pencil, charcoal, and colored pencil/conté crayon, to improve their sketch work, or to create beautiful drawings in their own right. This class is for absolute beginners, as well as those with some skill levels who look for a refresher course or would like to enhance their painting skills by strengthening their drawing abilities.

Gumpaste Flower Power! [NEW] Learn to create orchids and tropical flowers using gumpaste to decorate your cakes. Stand out from the crowd with these techniques for using gumpaste to create realistic looking flowers weeks in advance of your event and have a showstopping cake centerpiece. Beginners welcome. This class will teach you how to make a beautiful wedding cake topper that may be stored for months in advance. Orchid cutters, gumpaste and other small supplies are available for purchase before or in the first class from the instructor.

Wedding Cake Facelift [NEW] Future wedding cake designers and pastry chefs will make, assemble and decorate stunning three-tiered wedding cakes through the use of specialty fillings, frostings, decorations and skilled techniques. Students will be challenged with designing and creating a cake for “clients” with specific requirements and concerns to be addressed. Create a gumpaste flower centerpiece that can be stored and used later on a wedding cake. You will practice stacking, packing, delivering and setting up your cakes. You will look like a pro even if you are a beginner. In this course all cakes are created as “dummy cakes” on styrofoam forms and embellished with gumpaste, royal icing and fondant. These are the display cakes you see in professional bakeries. The cake you create in class will last a year! For the centerpiece we will create an orchid topper in gumpaste that you can create now and store to top the wedding cake months from now. Beginners welcome. Fantasy Inspired Cakes - Teen Cake Camp Ages 12-16 [NEW] Teens learn how to read a recipe, pick ingredients, use kitchen utensils including whisks, measuring cups, spoons, mixer and also use a decorating bag, icing tips, create a rose, work with fondant and proper refrigeration for certain icings. Cleanliness and cooperative team work is also taught. Of course fun is a prime ingredient as well! Fantasy is the theme for this five session class. We’ll take Color Concepts from the Twilight and Alice in Wonderland films to create a topsy turvy cake and sculpt fantasy gumpaste flowers in deep plums, blacks and silver. You may register for a class any time before the class begins on a space available basis. You may register using one of the following methods (full payment is due at time of registration):

To request a transcript for a Continuing Education class, please visit our website at www.conted.clayton.edu to download the transcript request form. We charge a transcript fee of $10 for all processed transcript requests. Accepted methods of payment include Cash, Check, Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express. Transcripts cannot be released until payment is made.
