A Multi-genre Bio Report/Project (150pts.) Due : Includes the following: 1) An introduction that discusses why you selected this individual—this should be analysis—what is significant about this person—what qualities stand out—discuss the genre (poetry, dialogue, narrative, play, photo essay, etc.) you selected and the process you went through in deciding the structure. If there is anything else important that the reader/audience should know prior to going through your report, this is where it should be. 2 to 2 ½ pages typed 2) The body of the piece must include 5 different genres (minimum—more is OK). Consider this a formal presentation intended for public viewing (typing, pictures, etc) as in a magazine, documentary or museums. 3) A sense of continuity with closure is critical. Make sure that you have links/transitions between the different genres. These links could be as short as a few lines or as long as a page. They are critical in providing a bridge between your genres. These transitions/links will show how each genre is connected to the next. For instance, as one genre ends, you might mention, “Although it is clear from this journal entry, that he was an intensely private man, he also enjoyed surrounding himself with people. My next genre reveals his gregarious side by…” 4) Decide on what format you will use to present your project. The format is separate from the genre. Format may be video, computer (power point), scrapbook, posters-- whatever your project requires—be prepared to present 5) Some genre suggestions: • Significant sketch (drawing or in writing) of central character • Significant environmental sketch of atmosphere/setting that contributed to the importance of the individual • Narrative of character in the central moment/activity of his/her life • A vividly rendered central image concerning the individual. In a paper about pitching legend Satchel Paige, you might simply describe in great detail a baseball, a thing he held in his right hand tens of thousands of times. In a paper about Amelia Earhart, you might begin by describing the view from the cockpit of her twinengine Lockheed Electra • Compelling photos or artwork that captures the individual or moments of importance • An extended metaphor • Render a defining moment in your person’s life. For example, the poem of John Lennon’s shooting. He might have begun with Lennon writing song lyrics or playing with his son. • Two-voice poem • Song lyrics
