People’s Place. With the recent opening of Place Manly, we took the opportunity to sit down with Director Marc Sorrentino to discuss how his office will be a place for the people. From his auspicious beginnings, to his team’s dynamic expertise, Marc has his eyes on the future and his feet firmly set on the ground. What is the appeal of Manly? If Manly were in France it would be an enclave only for the elite. Not dwarfed by high rise, it's the best kept secret in Brisbane real estate. More growth is inevitable with an abundance of leisure and lifestyle opportunities available. A lot of people don't realise we have the largest boat harbour facility in the southern hemisphere. In less than half an hour you can drive from the city, get on a boat and out into the bay: it's one of the few places in Australia you can do that!

Tell us about the timing of Place Manly. The Place Directors were very cautious with their timing. They were patient with their expansion plans and wanted the right people; the right locals. I had been approached by pretty much everyone, but with the changing face of Manly and with Place's unique and clear marketing vision - modern, fresh, cool - I knew it was a perfect match. It's incredibly important to be proud of your brand and Place reflects my own style and personality. How do you see the franchise fitting into the Bayside region currently and into the future? Bringing Place to Manly changes the landscape of the area. Our presence, as a family business, is based on providing local employment opportunities, generating economic growth and prosperity locally, and becoming a community and business mainstay for years to come. The feedback has been entirely positive. I think we're regarded as the right locals for the job. Baysiders have seen how Place in Oxford Street has been part of very significant growth in Bulimba and are excited about the benefits Place Manly will bring, not only to our local trade and retail precinct, but to the prosperity of the community at large. We want to contribute to the community. This is not our office, it's the Bay's office.

Does an agent have to fit into the culture and have a social/public presence in the community? I often say that I'm not in the real estate industry, I'm in the people industry. And the same goes for my wife Mandy. She is a very, very big part of our connection with the community. She seems to know every man and their dog... she not only seems to know everyone by name, she literally knows the names of almost all the dogs walked on The Esplanade! A fifteen minute stroll usually turns into an hour and a half social event when Mandy goes walking.
She's very well-known, liked and respected in Manly. She's great in the office and at opens because she genuinely wants to help others during the sale or purchase of a property. A period which can be stressful for a lot of people. One of my key strengths is managing people and developing skills; I plan to hire locals and want to see our staff do well, to learn and thrive in the business. You have some exciting plans for the Place Manly office. Can you tell us about those? We are very close to signing the lease on a tremendous property and have some
exciting plans to put in place. I can't say much at the moment, but will say that of course the property will maintain the chic style typical of the Place brand, so it will be physically very attractive, but there will be some very special elements that no one will expect. It will be a talking point in Manly.
