Supporting social enterprise, supporting your communities.

What is Small Works? Small Works is where communities meet social enterprise. Our approach bridges the relationship between landlords, social enterprises and residents. To mitigate the impact of austerity Small Works engages with social entrepreneurs to bring community and individual support back to people’s doorstep. In exchange for the below-market rent our members contribute to the community through a ‘give-back scheme’. Small Works facilitates these interactions between social enterprises and local residents bringing forth new opportunities for personal development and community interaction.

Small Works currently furnishes 35 desks for 10 different organisations across our two spaces at prices significantly below the market rate - yet we deliver services to our members similar to any commercial coworking space.

Our members include local, national and international social enterprises and charities:

Small Works has created a new leg of entrepreneurs with ideas who are challenged to go out and do things. It’s been great having Small Works on the ground, along with other partners to address the needs of local residents. —Ashley Elliott Community Development Worker, Peabody

Where you come in Small Works is on the verge of scaling substantially across London, perhaps even further. Now is the time for a partner to take advantage of this expanding market and to champion a strong future together. As our partner you will gain exposure for your brand across multiple audiences. Small Works is a hub for multiple organisations, each with their own network of customers and patrons. By investing in Small Works you are guaranteed market reach to multiple customer segments in London through on-site recognition, through our own communications and those of both our venue partners and our social enterprise members.

With two successful pilot projects in full operation, we are planning to open two more in 2017 and a further three spaces are projected to open by 2018.

We currently have 10 social enterprises in our two central-london locations. In 2017 we anticipate 20 more social enterprises working across four spaces. That will comprise an estimated 45,000 genuine interactions with residents of London during a single year.

Clear Village Clear Village aims to strengthen the resiliency of communities by bringing innovative ideas to underused spaces. Our goal is to transform these spaces into new community commons; places that bring people together, create local resilience and enhance community well-being.

Clear Village promotes its own activities via social media, web, print and one-off events. It is part of a placemaking network spanning Europe and North America. In 2014, it was one of 12 organisations selected to join the Human Cities network, a fouryear initiative by the European Union to bring together collective placemaking knowledge into an interdisciplinary exchange.

I have seen first-hand how coworking space for social enterprise offers career development to young people and positive engagement in healthy activities for the wider community. At two of our housing estates, the Small Works model of co-working has attracted some of the most exciting small businesses. —Martin O’Donnell Community Development Manager, Peabody

The Small Works program is a fun and informative program that is helping to bring the estate community together. It is run by enthusiastic people who seem to have boundless energy. The space is being used very well and the dance classes are particularly enjoyable. Everytime I go I see happy smiling faces.
