It’s not only important to wash your face daily, but you need to wash your makeup brushes and applicators once in a while, too! This may seem like a daunting task. We have brushes for foundation, powder, contour, blush, concealer… the list goes on! But if you don’t wash your brushes, you’re only going to add more dirt and oil to your face. Then you’ll want to use MORE makeup to cover up the blemishes that appear as a result. Also, dirty brushes will make it harder for you to apply all that extra makeup. The built-up dirt, oil, and makeup makes it harder to distribute makeup evenly.
There are many methods you can use to clean your makeup brushes and applicators. Some makeup artists use olive oil, or olive oil soap bars, to clean their brushes. You can use My Natural Beauty Skin Tone Olive Oil Soap by dampening it, then swirl your brush gently around the soap. Make sure to wash away all of the soap from the brush, and let it air dry. Air dry your brushes over your sink to make sure that the shape of your brush stays intact. You can also use various household products, such as dish soap, to wash your brushes. Many companies make daily brush cleaners that you can simply spray on your brushes and wipe, without the hassle of having to shampoo and dry your brushes. This is a great way to disinfect your brushes and save time. However, if you use this method, you still need to shampoo your brushes at least once a month for a more thorough cleanse. You also need to make sure you keep your brushes covered. Although we like to display our brushes on nicely decorated brush holders, we often forget one important information: dust accumulates on everything. In this case, you will have wash your brushes before using it almost every single time. To avoid the extra hassle of constantly washing your brushes, or risk getting excess dust in your pores, keep your brushes in a closed makeup box or container.
Now the question is, how often should you clean your brushes and applicators? This all depends on the type of brush you’re using, and how often you use it. Eye makeup brushes do not need to be washed as much as brushes for the face, unless you’re using one brush for multiple colors. Brushes and applicators for the face should be washed no more than two weeks, but this also depends on how much and how often you use makeup.
