CHRISTMAS 2013 & 2014 PREVIEW

Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year to all our Passengers. After a difficult few months, I am very optimistic that our recent decision to return to West Coast Railways as our Train Operator will mean business as usual from now on. They are committed, like Steam Dreams, to delivering the programme that is set out in our brochures. We believe the cancellations and late changes to our itineraries that blighted some journeys in the last 12 months will now be a thing of the past. It also means that for the whole of 2014, we will be back working with the familiar coaches that formed part of the Green Train that was Steam Dreams’ regular stock for so many years. Many of these coaches have recently been upgraded and we are delighted that Premier Dining passengers will be back in coaches with a 2 and 4 seat configuration. With more locos to choose from than ever before, the future looks bright and steamy! Marcus Robertson Chairman

Premier Dining 2014

Our 1950’s carriages, with wood-panelled walls, elegant table lamps and curtains at the windows, make the ideal setting for a wonderful journey along Britain’s best railways. Discreet yet attentive service is offered throughout the trip, so you will feel truly looked after in style.

Exclusively available for this winter season only, passengers travelling in our new Premier Dining Plus will be seated in refurbished and festively decorated second class BR carriages with a more spacious seating arrangement – along with the added option of a table for two (£30 supplement payable). Passengers travelling in this class will receive the same appetising menu as Premier Dining.

We are delighted to say that from the start of 2014, Premier Dining will once again be in coaches with a mixture of tables for two or four. We are returning to the West Coast coaches that The Cathedrals Express used for many years up until the end of 2011 and that many passengers have asked us to revert to. They are ideal for restaurant car style service.

Premier Dining

All Dining Passengers

Champagne and orange juice, followed by a full English breakfast or luxury brunch, make Premier Dining an inviting option. Homeward bound a delicious four-course meal is served by our helpful waiting staff, with tea and coffee available throughout the day. Premier Dining is served in coaches with tables for four throughout.

Tables in our dining carriages are laid with crisp white linen, shining tableware and seasonal flowers. A variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks can be ordered through our waiting staff. Meals are provided from a set menu. We cater for vegetarian and special dietary requirements when pre-ordered at the time of booking. Whether a full English breakfast or luxury brunch is served depends on the time of day and duration of the journey. On occasions, the number of courses or types of meal offered may be changed, due to the time of day, length of journey or timing changes from Network Rail.

Passengers start their day with champagne and orange juice, accompanied by pastries. This is followed by a full English breakfast or luxury brunch. On the return trip, tempting canapés open your five-course meal, which is complimented by a half bottle of wine per person.

Tables for Two Enjoy the added luxury of securing your own table for 2. In both Pullman Style Dining and Premier Dining these are available for a supplement of £30 per table.

Sunday Luncheon and High Tea

First Class

Pullman Style Dining or Premier Dining will enjoy a traditional three course Sunday Lunch on the outward journey. On the return journey a High Tea will be served consisting of a light meal and dessert.

Passengers are usually seated in compartments for up to six people. Champagne and orange juice is offered after boarding, with tea and coffee available throughout the day. Homemade cakes or biscuits are served, whilst additional food and drinks can be ordered through our waiting staff. Premium Standard Passengers are seated at tables for four in open carriages and are served complimentary tea or coffee at their seats. Our waiting staff will be happy to take orders for the purchase of any additional drinks or snacks we have available and will bring them to your table.

Out of London Starts As with all our excursions we normally plan to operate our train with steam for 100% of the journey. However, occasionally on some of our itineraries that start and finish out of London, it has been necessary, for operational reasons, for part of the journey to be diesel hauled. In most cases this will be the last leg of the journey on the return home and is normally requested by Network Rail, the train operating company or the loco owner.

Steam Dreams cannot be held liable for additional costs incurred in making your travel plans and do advise that you do not pre-book travel or accommodation. If you do need to book accommodation in advance, we recommend that you book a rate that includes cancellation insurance should details of your trip change. Timings, routes and locomotives are subject to change as we are dependent on third parties and these are not within our control. For our Multi-day Trips Terms & Conditions, please see our full Holidays by Steam Brochure. Payment Bookings may be paid for by debit or credit cards (with the exception of American Express). Debit card payments do not incur extra charges, but a 2% transaction fee is charged for credit card payments, which covers the costs incurred by Steam Dreams for providing this service. Other payment methods including paying by cash or cheque* are still available for telephone bookings only and remain free of charge. *We are unable to accept payments by cheques less than 21 days prior to departure. This is to allow for postage and time to process the payment. Deposits All deposits are non-transferrable and non-refundable. Gift Vouchers, Credit Notes and Discounts All third party gift vouchers, Steam Dreams gift vouchers, credit notes or discounts must be redeemed through the Booking Office and cannot be used for online bookings. In the event of a train being cancelled or you cancelling your booking, Steam Dreams vouchers are non-refundable as a cash payment; however vouchers can be transferred for use against another Steam Dreams trip. Passengers who have booked using a

third party voucher should note that if you choose to cancel your booking within seven days of departure the third party voucher is non-transferable. Discounts may only be used against bookings made after the date of issue and cannot be retrospectively added to any previous bookings. Steam Availability Steam Dreams will use its best efforts to provide steam traction on trips rostered for steam haulage, for the sector(s) advertised as such, but this cannot be guaranteed. On occasion a diesel locomotive may be substituted, mainly due to drought, route restrictions or locomotive failure on the day. Occasionally on some tours it may be necessary for a part of the journey to be diesel hauled, normally at the request of Network Rail, the train operating company or the locomotive owner. Where possible we will try to make this clear at the time of booking but it may be necessary for changes to be made at a later stage for operational reasons. Diesel Assistance On steam hauled trips occasionally for operational reasons or due to adverse weather, a diesel engine may be attached to the train. General Conditions Steam Dreams will use its best efforts to ensure that the proposed locomotives, coaching stock, route and times run as advertised and we reserve the right to amend or cancel any part of the tour at any time. Steam Dreams cannot accept any responsibility for the action of third parties and strongly recommends that all passengers take out travel/cancellation insurance. To avoid disappointment, passengers are advised not to pre-book transport links before final timings have been released by Network Rail. Traveller Health Conditions To get the most out of our trips, passengers must be able to board the train and walk through the carriage(s) to their allocated seat unassisted. Passengers must make Steam Dreams staff aware of any mobility assistance required at least a week prior to the date of the trip. Mobility assistance includes the use of wheelchairs, walking frames and walking sticks. Wheelchairs, walking frames and mobility scooters must be of the fold-up variety and will be issued with an identity tag before being stored in the guards van and cannot be used on board the train. If in doubt, please contact the Bookings Office for advice. During your time with us, please bring any problems you may experience to the attention of the management so that we may try to rectify them swiftly. Please note that tickets for all day trips are sent out by email unless requested to be sent by post. Brochure Accuracy This brochure was printed in October 2013. We have done all we can to ensure that it is accurate, but due to any changes made by suppliers or human error, information may alter after publication or may be unintentionally incorrect.
