Clemson Sets NCAA Soccer Record in 2006 The Tigers achieved an NCAA soccer first (men’s and women’s) in 2006 when the team advanced three consecutive matches in tournament play by winning penalty kicks. In the 2006 NCAA Tournament, Clemson tied Vanderbilt 1-1 in regulation and won the penalty kick round 4-3 in the first round. In the second round, the Tigers played Oklahoma State to a 0-0 tie and advanced 4-2 on penalty kicks. In the Round of 16, Clemson and Stanford were scoreless in regulation before the Tigers won the penalty kick round by a score of 4-2.

NCAA Quarterfinals Ranked Sixth in Final National Poll
The 1997 season was highlighted by the Tigers’ first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament’s Final Eight. In the tournament’s first round match on November 17, Clemson defeated Georgia 1-0 at Riggs Field. Sophomore forward Jennifer Crawford scored her 17th goal of the season to lead Clemson to victory over the Bulldogs. Crawford netted four goals in the win over the Gamecocks and took over first place in Clemson history for most goals in a single game. Crawford also recorded a hat trick against Massachusetts, becoming just the third player in Clemson history to ever record a hat trick. Bueter, Burkett and Crawford scored two goals apiece in the Tigers’ win over Davidson during the regular season. It was just the second time that three players scored two or more goals in a single match. The 1997 season was the fourth consecutive year that Clemson advanced to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament, which was just the fourth year of the program’s existence.
In 1999, the Tigers advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament for the second time in the program’s six-year history. After receiving a first-round bye, Julie Augustyniak scored with only 41 seconds remaining to give Clemson a 1-0 win over Marquette in the second round match held at Clemson, SC on November 13. It was defender Augustyniak’s first goal of the season. The eighth-ranked Tigers went on to battle 11th-ranked Wake Forest to a 0-0 tie at Riggs Field in the Round of 16 on November 20 and advanced to the Final Eight by winning the penalty kick round 3-1. Beth Keller recorded eight goals and seven assists and freshman Heather Beem had seven goals and seven assists on the season. Clemson goalkeeper Katie Carson posted 12 solo shutouts and allowed only 17 goals in 23 games. She had a then-record 0.74 goals against average and recorded 109 saves. The 109 saves moved her into first place in Tiger record books for single season saves. Clemson’s Keller and Nancy Augustyniak were named FirstTeam All-ACC, while Julie Augustyniak was named to the second team. Keller, Carson, Nancy Augustyniak and Alison Burpee were all named to the NSCAA AllSoutheast Region team. Nancy Augustyniak and Carson were also named to the All-ACC Tournament Team in 1999. Five Clemson players, Beem, Carson, Rachel Gallegos, Arrington and Keller were named to Soccer America’s Team-of-the-Week during various weeks of the season and Beem and Gallegos also garnered Atlantic Coast Conference Player-of-the-Week honors that season.
Sheri Bueter netted five goals and nine assists for the Tigers in 1997, including a goal and an assist in the team’s Round of 16 win over UNC-Greensboro.

Clemson won 12 straight matches to start the season and set a school record for most consecutive wins at any time during a season. The Tigers upset number-one ranked North Carolina 2-1 on September 13, marking the program’s first ever upset win over a top-ranked team. The 2006 season marked the fourth time in program history that the Tigers have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. In the first round of the tournament, Clemson battled Vanderbilt to a 1-1 tie and then advanced on penalty kicks 4-3 on November 10 at Riggs Field. The Tigers then faced Oklahoma State in the second round at Riggs on November 12. The game was scoreless in regulation and Clemson won the penalty kick round by a score of 4-2. Program History April 3, 1993 - Clemson announced that it would field a women’s soccer team for the 1994 season. June 30, 1993 - Tracey Leone was named Clemson’s first-ever women’s soccer coach. August 20, 1993 - Tracey Leone started work at Clemson University. September 4, 1994 - Clemson played its first-ever women’s soccer match against North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The topranked Tar Heels defeated the Tigers 7-0. September 9, 1994 The Tigers played their first home match against Loyola (MD). Keri Nelson recorded the Tigers’ firstever goal at the 28:09 mark in the game. Nikki Tompkins was credited with the first assist in program history. Clemson earned its first-ever women’s soccer victory by a score of 5-1. September 18, 1994 Clemson upset #15 Vanderbilt 2-1 in overtime in Nashville. It was the program’s first win over a ranked team. The ComKeri Nelson scored Clemson’s first-ever goal on modores were ranked September 9, 1994 in the Tigers’ 5-1 victory over 15th in the ISAA poll and 16th by Soccer America. Loyola (MD). October 15, 1994 - Clemson won its first Atlantic Coast Conference match with a 4-2 victory over N.C. State at home. Ironically, the Tiger men’s team won their first conference match over N.C. State on November 11, 1967. November 2, 1994 - The Tigers’ Carmie Landeen and Sheri Bueter were named second-team All-ACC as announced by the league’s office. Landeen was also named ACC Rookie-of-theYear. November 3, 1994 - Clemson lost to N.C. State in overtime in the first round of the ACC Tournament in Chapel Hill, NC. It was the first-ever match played in the conference tournament for the Tigers. November 6, 1994 - Clemson received its first-ever bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. The Tigers were the only first-year team in the nation to earn a bid. November 9, 1994 - Clemson played N.C. August 25-27, 2000 - Clemson defeated UCLA and Old Dominion to win the Clemson/Nike Kickoff Classic. September 1-3, 2000 - The Tigers defeated Dayton 2-1 on September 1, and were victorious over Charlotte 1-0 on September 3 en route to the Clemson/Nike Invitational title. September 13, 2000 - Clemson upset number-one ranked North Carolina 2-1 in the Tigers’ first-ever upset over a topranked team. Deliah Arrington scored the winning goal at the 74:31 mark in the match. September 22-23, 2000 - The Tigers won the Clemson University Invitational with a 5-0 defeat of UNC-Asheville and a 1-0 victory over Furman. September 29, 2000 - Clemson defeated 14th-ranked Virginia in overtime in Charlottesville to record the program’s 100th alltime victory. November 5, 2000 - ACC regular-season champion Clemson led the 2000 All-ACC women’s soccer team with a school-record four first-team selections, as voted upon by the league’s eight head coaches. Deliah Arrington, Nancy Augustyniak, Lindsay Browne and Katie Carson were the Tigers’ four honorees. Ray Leone won the ACC Coach-ofthe-Year award after leading the Tigers to the school’s first ACC regular-season title. December 7, 2000 - Four Clemson women’s soccer players were named to the NSCAA All-Southeast Region Team. Deliah Arrington, Nancy Augustyniak and Lindsay Browne were named to the first team, while Julie Augustyniak was a second-team honoree. Head Coach Ray Leone was named the Southeast Region Coach-of-the-Year. December 11, 2000 - The Tigers were ranked fifth in the final NSCAA poll. Defender Nancy Augustyniak was the 33rd overall pick and defender Julie Augustyniak was the 64th overall pick as the twins were both drafted by the Atlanta Beat. Midfielder Amy Gray was the 90th pick overall by the Washington Freedom and forward Beth Keller was selected 98th overall by the Philadelphia Charge. Lindsay Massengale, a defender, was taken as the 108th overall pick by the Boston Breakers. December 30, 2000 - Ray Leone resigned as the head coach of the Tigers to become the head coach at Arizona State. Previously tying Vanderbilt and Oklahoma State and advancing by way of penalty kicks, on this date, Clemson tied Stanford 0-0 in Stanford, CA and won the penalty kick round 4-2 to reach the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. November 24, 2006 - Clemson fell to Florida State in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. It was the Tigers’ fourth trip to the national quarterfinals in the program’s 13-year history. December 6, 2006 - Ashley Phillips was named a third-team All-American by the NSCAA. Phillips (first team) and Elizabeth Jobe (third team) were named to the NSCAA All-Southeast Region team. Phillips was also a third-team All-American according to Soccer Buzz.
