Shooting: ‘The events from last weekend are disheartening’ Continued from page 1 tims was dead already in front of the apartment, and the other died later at University of Cincinnati Hospital. Walker then said he did “CSI sh*t” and “mopped up the trail of blood so that his dogs would not lick up the blood.” But he told police he “half assed” it and doesn't really know how to clean, so he just used water. When police arrived at the scene, Walker was gone. Police searched the area, and found Walker near the wood line behind

the building at 306 St. Andrews Drive.! Walker is suspected of being on drugs, according to the police report.!

In the wake of the Brewer murder, Pierce Township Board of Trustees, its police and fire chiefs, and its zoning administrator, began working with the owners of the complex to address the issues.

The issues weren't just the high-profile murder of a Clermont County Sheriff's deputy, but also that 10 percent of the police calls every day were going to the complex regarding drug issues, trespassing, and vandalism.! Changes so far have included doing background checks on tenants, security cameras, added lighting, and monthly routine maintenance inspection reports. David Shearer, manager of the complex, said the owners have put $1.2 mil-

lion into updating the units. Something the trustees have in their back pocket, tabled for now, is Resolution 2019-024, which determined the existence of a public nuisance. It's been indefinitely tabled, but it's also possible to reinstate the resolution. Jeff Bachman, police chief, said at a Nov. 13 meeting of the trustees that he's been regularly making checks at the complex to see the status of the progress. In fact, runs to the complex went down from a

high of 40 runs to 30 to 27 runs in September.! A special meeting is slated for Jan. 6, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. to meet with the owners of the complex again to discuss the progress.! Nick Kelly, trustee, told The Sun that prior to that meeting, he will tour the complex in December. ! “If it is determined that progress has not been made, it could mean reconsidering the public nuisance resolution, but we will not know until more

Did you know that Thanksgiving is the leading day of the year for fires involving cooking equipment? Cuts, burns and back injuries are common, too. Mercy Health offers the following tips to help you and your family stay safe:

in holiday preparations but a hectic kitchen can be hazardous. Have fun activities, such as puzzles, games or crafts for the kids to keep them occupied. Kids can also assist with simple recipes that don’t require them to be in the hectic kitchen.

- Stay in the kitchen when cooking on the stovetop to keep an eye on the food - Stay in the home when cooking the family turkey and check on it frequently - Keep children away from the stove. The stove will be hot and kids should stay three feet away

Make sure kids stay away from hot food and liquids. The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns - Keep the floor clear to avoid tripping hazards - Keep knives out of the reach of children - Be sure electric cords are not dangling off the

counter within easy reach of a child - Keep matches and utility lighters out of the reach of children — up high in a locked cabinet - Never leave children alone in room with a lit candle - Make sure smoke alarms are working by

He added, “Of course, for me, the events from last weekend are disheartening, but also a clear indication that we need to continue our pursuit of meaningful and sustainable progress in this area of our community.” Next court hearing Walker is next due in court on Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing before Judge Jesse Kramig.
