Royce Pfeffer, 81

Royce A. Pfeffer, 81, of May’s Lick passed away on Monday April 27, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. S h e was born in Tollesboro, Kentucky on July 10, 1 9 3 8 daughter of the late Roy & Marietta Owens Quinn. She was a member of the St. Michaels Church in Ripley and a retired 38 year employee of US Shoe. She had a strong spirit and infectious laugh that will be missed by those who knew her. Survivors include her longtime companion Alvin Davis; a daughter Belinda Maxie of Crothersville, IN; 2 grandchildren, Kayleigh Grippa and John Michael Grippa; 2 sisters, Carolyn Jones and Barb Thomas; a brother, Roy “Sonny” Quinn. Also, Lora Davis, Jim (Missy) Davis, Anne & Ava Wamsley, Shelby & Madeline Davis & several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Michael Pfeffer; 3 sisters, Katherine Ashley, Jeanette Applegate, Ruby Morgan. Services will be Private. Dale Mays, 88

Dale Mays, age 88 of Russellville, Ohio passed away Friday, May 1, 2020 at his residence. He was born September 7, 1931 in Irvine, KY the son of the late Wilson Mays Sr. and Cleota (Metcalf) Mays. He was a home improvements contractor. He was also a member of the Russellville Church of Christ. He was active in the church with Missions and Christians Across America. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Etta Mays in 2016, daughter, Nanette Campbell and 8 brothers and sisters. Dale is survived by 3 daughters, Sue Talley and husband Sam of Winchester, Delores Chandler of Hillsboro, Patricia Lawson of Higginsport, 2 brothers, Wilson Mays Jr, of Georgetown and Glendon Mays of Irvine, KY, 3 grandchildren, Joshua (Taylor) Chandler, Devin (Stephanie) Lawson and Tyler Lawson. Due to the COVID-19 Virus Pandemic, private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Meeker Funeral Home. Drue Lane will be officiating. Keith Moore, 82

Keith Moore, age 82 of Decatur, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the Adams County Regional Medical Center. He was born September 17, 1937 in Byrd Twp, OH, the son of the late Bill and Helen (Bloom) Moore. He was a farmer as well as a US Army veteran. After World War II, Keith’s parents bought and moved to a farm in Decatur, Ohio. His father bought him a Shorthorn heifer. He then got involved in 4H. He showed his first heifer at the Brown County Fair in 1946. In 1996, the Brown County Fair Board presented Keith with an award for completing his 50th consecutive year of showing at the fair. In 1955 he graduated from Decatur high school. In the Fall he attended The Ohio State University. Following one year of college he was drafted into the US Army. He spent 16 months in Korea before being honorably discharged. Upon completion of his service, Keith started building a Shorthorn herd and showed on the county fair circuit, at the Ohio State Fair and participated in state and district sales. During this same time, he also started a family which resulted in three children. In the early 1970’s, Keith worked for the newly formed Ohio Shorthorn Breeders Association as the organization’s secretary and field man where he traveled throughout the state representing the association. Throughout this time, he also managed many sales for the OSBA as well as in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky and Tennessee. Over the next few years, he worked for the American Shorthorn Association, ‘Shorthorn Country’ magazine and worked with the Kentucky State Fair Board to help create North American International Livestock Exposition. In 1981, he returned to full time farming where he raised tobacco and managed his Shorthorn herd. In 1988 the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association decided to start a Beef Exposition and Keith was appointed as the Ohio Shorthorn Association representative to the Expo board where he still served until his passing. Outside the beef and farming industries, Keith enjoyed attending Eastern Local basketball games. He cheered on students at games all over Ohio. He supported youth throughout Brown County in several ways including, coaching baseball, announcing the open youth show at the Brown County Fair, Decatur 4-H Advisor and auctioneering cakes at the Decatur Fall Festival. He was active in the Decatur Community Church, and could be seen working their booth at the Decatur Memorial Day Ice-Cream Festival and Day at the Park, both annual community events. He is survived by his wife, Alberta Jodrey Moore of Decatur, 2 sons, Scott Moore and Bev of Morrow, OH, Stuart Moore and wife Teresa of Winchester, 1 daughter, Mande Payton and husband Dave of Decatur, 4 grandchildren, Blake (Natalie) Moore, Casey Dawson, Gabriel Moore and Etta Moore, and 1 great grandchild, Tillie Moore. Due to the COVID-19 Virus Pandemic, private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family under the directions of the Meeker Funeral Home. Kevin Jodrey will be officiating. Ronald Kortier, 77

Ronald K. Kortier, age 77 of Mt.Orab, Ohio passed away at home surrounded by the love of his life, wife Carolyn Kortier and his loving family Tuesday, April 28, 2020. He retired from the Sears and Roebuck, Co. in Livonia, Michigan, enjoyed classic cars, motorcycles and spending time with family, friends and his “car buddies.” One of his proudest moments was winning first place with his 1948 Ford convertible at the 2019 Detroit Autorama Hot Rod Show. Ron will be forever remembered for his endearing personality, debonair appearance, adventurous nature, love of family and furry-friends and for holding the hands-down honor of “Best Uncle and Papaw Ever.” He was born on May 24, 1942 in Wayne, Michigan the son of the late Omer Anthony and Florence Elizabeth (Bruskotter) Kortier. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife - Fran (Magyar) Kortier, three sisters - Marcile Hutchinson, Betty Grant and Mary Pavlik, one sister-in-law - Rita Kortier and one step-daughter - Debbie Porter. Mr. Kortier is survived by his wife – Carolyn (Resibois) Kortier ; three brothers - Paul (Cecile) Kortier of Hillman, Michigan, his “almost twin” Herbert Kortier of Tipton, Michigan and Thomas (Judy) Kortier of Ypsilanti, Michigan; two step-sons - Greg (Jackie) Mullen of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Gary Mullen of Mt.Orab, Ohio; one son-in-law - Kenneth Porter – Mt.Orab, Ohio; four grandchildren - Heather Porter, Brian Porter and Ivy and Silas Rook and many nieces and nephews who were the children of his heart. Due to the COVID-19 Virus Pandemic, Private services will be held Monday, May 4, 2020 at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan. Robert Gray, 53

Robert L. Gray, age 53 of Georgetown, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, April 27, 2020. He was a graduate of Western Brown High School in Mt.Orab, Ohio, a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Georgetown Masonic Lodge F&AM #72 and employed by ITW Fiberglass Evercoat for 32 years. Rob loved being outdoors and spending time with his family. You could always find him coaching his children in sports, going to the gym to stay healthy and active and working on little projects around the house. He created a back yard that was a child’s dream adventure. Many summers were spent grilling out by the pool, riding quads around the yard, tinkering with toys in the garage and building forts in the playset. Rob loved family vacations and was a big fan of Cruises. The family was saddened when they had to cancel their most recent trip to Disney. Little did he know, the memories those trips created will be some of the fondest memories his family will cherish forever. He was the rock and foundation for his family. Rob worked tirelessly to provide for them and ensure they never wanted for anything. He was a father like no other and a husband who treated his wife like a princess. No matter the crowd nor the company, Rob could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made everyone feel welcome. His life will forever leave a mark on those he touched. Rob was born December 11, 1966 in Georgetown, Ohio the son of Evelyn (Cole) Gray of Georgetown, Ohio and the late Richard L. Gray. In addition to his mother, Mr. Gray is survived by his wife of 20 years, Paula (Haitz) Gray whom he married September 11, 1999; two daughters –Paige Rolph and husband Adam of Mt.Orab, Ohio and Lexie Gray of Georgetown, Ohio; one son – Robert “Cole” Gray of Georgetown, Ohio; two grandchildren – Huntley and Natalyn Rolph; two brothers - Rodney Gray and wife Lisa of Hamersville, Ohio and Ronald Gray of Georgetown, Ohio; father-in-law – Paul Haitz of Ripley, Ohio; motherin-law – Janalyn Payne and husband Frank of Lake Waynoka, Ohio; three brothers-in-law - Chase Rickey and Eric of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jordan Payne of Cincinnati, Ohio and Justin Haitz of Ripley, Ohio; two sisters-in-lawMaria Fulton and husband Austin of Ripley, Ohio and Megan Carlson and husband Quinn of Georgetown, Ohio; special aunt and uncle - Jack and Regina Davis of Georgetown, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his two dogs - Boomer and Jasper. Maxine Guzi, 84

On April 26, 2020, Maxine June Guzi (Mason) loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother (Grams) and Great Grandmother (Gigi) passed away peacefully at age 84, joining her husband, Charles, who preceded her in death just two months prior. Maxine, a wonderfully nurturing to all and fiercely dedicated mother, has 5 children who love her dearly, Joe (Laura), Greg (Amy Stuthard), Judi Guzi Ward (Brian), Amy Guzi Parkinson (Stan) and Jennifer Guzi Holmes (Tony). She is adored by her 6 grandchildren, Greg Ward (Katie), Jeff Ward, Wes Parkinson, Caitlin Guzi Mention (Tone), Claire Parkinson, Stacie Muller and her 3 great granddaughters, Mia, Lexi and Rylee. She was a beloved sister to Mike Irving and Jodi Irving and sister in law to Peggy Mason, Gene Jennings and Jo Snider, dear Aunt to many loving nieces and nephews, dearly loved by many cousins and many dear friends who adored her. Maxine was also preceded in death by her father, Virgil Mason, her mother, Hazel Mason, her sister, Joyce Jennings, her sister in law Velda Irving, her brother Marvin Mason and her in-laws, Joe and Emma Guzi and Joyce Zimmerman (Guzi). Maxine was born on September 16, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio. After losing her father suddenly at age 5, Maxine and her older brother and sister grew up in foster care while her younger brother and sister were adopted together. After being apart for over 30 years, with the help of her older brother Marvin, the five siblings were finally reunited in 1971, one of the greatest blessings in her life. Maxine was a graduate of the Bethel High School, class of 1953. On April 24, 1954 she married Charles Guzi who she affectionately called “Gus” from the day they met. They were happily married for 66 years. She was a loving and devoted wife and caretaker to her husband after he suffered a heart attack and continued to be affected by heart disease for the remainder of his life. Max was so loved by everyone she met. She enjoyed many travels around the world with her husband and family. Max also enjoyed water aerobics for many years, writing poetry, reading, going to the movies, concerts and the theater, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Maxine cherished her family demonstrating the meaning of love and commitment. While raising her children, Max volunteered in the schools and in the community of Greenhills on many service projects and was both a Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America Troop Leader. Max was honored as “Volunteer of the Year” by Women Helping Women Crisis Center, where she was an advocate in court for victims of rape and domestic abuse for several years. She also enjoyed working at Hamilton County Park District Offices. Max along with Gus will make a direct and important contribution to medical teaching and research with the unique gift of body donation to The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Our family will celebrate our mother’s amazing life privately per her wishes as well as honor both parents during The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine annual memorial service at Spring Grove Cemetery to pay homage to those individuals who have donated their bodies to insure the excellence of medical education and the advancement of medical science. The Guzi Family will take a trip to the village of Iseltwald, Switzerland, Gus and Max’s favorite place and spread their ashes together over Lake Brienz.
