During my recent visits to garden centers during the boiling weather, I did not witness any overheated person throwing veggie plants, smacking the spouse, or becoming naked and afraid. Social norms prevailed. Instead of road rage, is there heat rage? One study found that drivers are more likely to honk their car horns at stalled cars if they do not have air-conditioning in their own cars on steamy days. Visit www.psycnet.apa.org. Does heat promote hostility, aggression, and violence? Many studies have concluded that hot weather does, in fact, make people more aggressive. Researchers agree that there is a link between heat and violent outbursts, but they disagree on how, exactly, the weather affects flare-ups and frenzies. Stay home when it’s as hot out as a firecracker.

Use common sense. And don’t take toddlers shopping on the muggiest day of summer. Avoid joining the moaning and groaning party with other consumers. And please do not show rudeness to employees. Be glad you can go home to a frosty beverage and a cold shower. It’s okay to feel aggravated, frustrated, or mad, but it’s not okay to blast others. Go before you blow. Mind your summer manners. Use cognitive behavioral therapy. Reframe the lengthy line as a temporary challenge that has an end. Change the subject and stop chatting about the heatwave. Sweat serves a purpose. It cools the body down—so stop whining about sweating. Remember, pigs do not have functional sweat glands. That’s why Wilbur wallows in the mud. Be grateful you don’t have to wear a mud suit during a heatwave. Melissa Martin, Ph.D., is an author, columnist, educator, and therapist. She lives in southern Ohio.

So, how will of God, if we’ve been are people who aren’t listening to His gentle exposed to Biblical truth whisper, if we’ve been lov-

ing like Him. If we are the only mouthpiece of Christ some people will hear, we must ask: are they hearing love, truth, hope, compassion, self-control? Jesus is our model for life. What would it have been like to walk alongside Jesus, during His lifetime, and observe firsthand how He interacted with people. Friendly people, sick people, needy, downtrodden, lofty, jealous, and prideful people all flocked around Him, and His love was always complete. Jesus was the embodiment of love, the epitome of service, and the heart of compassion. Jesus was powerful yet kind, patient, gentle, obedient, and active. If our hearts have been transformed by His love, how accurately do we reflect Him to a world that so desperately needs to

find Him? Are we taking the call to be salt and light as seriously as we should? Are we constantly examining our hearts and asking God to use us to reach the hurting around us? We have a grave and great responsibility to model our lives off the Savior of the world. When we feel the urge to gossip or the pride rise up or the compulsion to judge others, we have to check our behavior. Jesus never behaved in such a way and He always had the mission of reaching people in His sights. Jesus never alienated people, and neither should we. Jesus always loved, and so should we. We must remember who we are and the mission we have as followers of Christ. “You are the only Bible some unbelievers will ever read.”

Do we read like Jesus?

Reigning With Christ

Jesus never promised us that when we died we would go to heaven to be with Him. Rather Jesus promised this: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3). At the Second Coming, Jesus whisks His saints off to New Jerusalem where they reign with Him during the millennium (Revelation 20:4-6). For while Jesus had already decided who was lost, His saints would participate in the sentencing phase: They, along with Him, would determine the amount of restitution – or suffering in hell – that each wicked person or angel must pay. In this way, the saints will judge the world and judge angels (1 Corinthians 6:2-3). After earth's sabbatical rest, Jesus, His saints, and New Jerusalem all journey to earth where every wicked person who ever lived is resurrected to face Jesus and receive their sentence. Satan and his angels are released out of the spirit world; given physical bodies, and also sentenced by Jesus at this the white throne judgment (Rev. 20:5-15). Defiant to the end, Satan and his wicked ones prepare to attack New Jerusalem. “Hellfire” comes down from God, and after each sinner suffers their required restitution, hell reduces them to ashes (Rev. 20:9, 14-15; Malachi 4:13). Then Jesus creates new heavens and a new earth (2 Peter 3:13) for the meek to inherit (Psalm 37:11).

Sincerely, Brenda K. Morrison
