FEATURED EVENTS 2022 Norman A. Sugarman Children’s Biography Award Ceremony Established in 1998, the Sugarman Award is the only literary prize in the nation that honors biographies written for children.

Young Scholars’ Academy Learn to Read & Succeed! Weekly program prepares children and their caregivers for Kindergarten. All lessons are based on the Ohio Department of Education Learning Standards. STORYTIMES Bring your little ones and begin raising readers! These storytimes are designed for specific developmental levels to help children gain language and pre-reading skills. Sessions foster early literacy skills and build social and emotional skills. Parents and caregivers learn simple, fun ways to incorporate literacy into everyday activities. Visit cpl.org/kids-teens/storytime Bouncing Babies & Books (ages 0-18 months) This lap-sit storytime offers stories, rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and other fun activities that build pre-literacy skills, enhance bonding, and provide social skills for little ones. STERLING Wee Read and Play (ages 18 months - 3 years) Caregivers are invited to develop their toddler’s language and social skills through stories, active songs, rhymes, and time for play. UNION Preschool Storytime (ages 3 - 5) Storytimes for preschoolers include songs, activities, and rhymes designed to support reading readiness and foster the social and emotional skills that kids need to succeed as they enter Kindergarten. In partnership with Best Buy, the Rockport Branch opened the Best Buy Teen Tech Center to train and mentor teens for tech-reliant jobs in the future. This space has professional recording, mixing, editing, and video equipment, green screen, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, button makers, and 3D printers. Plus Adobe Creative Cloud access for our members and mentors. Mentors work alongside teens to share their skills and knowledge, and create a resource for members.
Members develop skills that help them reach personal, educational, and career goals. Membership is FREE! (ages 10 to 17)

A variety of FREE meal packages are available at Cleveland Public Library locations through a partnership with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. Meals are available to anyone in the community while supplies last. Contact your neighborhood branch for details and availability.
September is Library Card Signup Month! Library cards are available to adults, children, and teens who reside, work, or attend an educational institution in the State of Ohio. Special Scholar Success Library Cards are available to young people age 17 and under. To get your Scholar Success card, visit any Cleveland Public Library location and ask a staff member.
Kids’ Café (all branches and Youth Services Department, Main Library, 4th floor) Nutritious FREE summer lunches for kids and teens, ages 18 and under.
eCards are available for access to electronic resources such as ebooks, emedia, research databases, etc. Apply online at cpl.org.
Backpack Meals (select locations) A FREE two-day supply of meals for youth, ages 18 and under. Backpack meals include two breakfasts, two entrees, and two snacks.
Educator Cards are available to teachers in schools or licensed childcare centers.
Family Food Boxes (select locations including Youth Services, Main Library, 4th floor) Adults and families may pick up a free 20- to 30-pound box of non-perishable dry goods including nutritional foods such milk, pasta, rice, cereal, peanut butter, and canned fruits, vegetables, and tuna.
