WHEREVER YOU ARE GOING

WELCOME TO SEDGEHILL SIXTH FORM.

Sedgehill Sixth Form offers a wide range of fantastic opportunities for our students to study a huge range of subjects, further develop their skills and experience a range of new opportunities. All students are supported by excellent and innovative teaching in state of the art facilities, providing varied experiences both inside and outside the classroom. We believe in empowering our students to develop and grow in a structured, nurturing environment, ensuring that they achieve their academic potential and flourish as citizens and leaders in the 21st century. Our students work hard to earn their places at Sedgehill sixth form – they are role models to younger students who aspire to achieve as highly as them. Our students are expected to take charge of their futures and to be ready to take their next steps in education or the world of work, contributing positively to their community as they do so.

Sixth form is challenging, exciting and very rewarding. We believe that successful sixth form study is the passport to a bright future. Sedgehill sixth formers are committed to their own success and this has meant that, in recent years, all students applying to university have secured a place. At interview prospective sixth form students are given information and guidance about their course choices to ensure that they are on the right pathway. Sedgehill students receive ongoing pathways advice throughout the year through our tutor teams and by sessions run by our current sixth form students. We believe that the key to our success is our collective hard work combined with a rich curriculum offer. We offer a wide range of academic and vocational courses at levels 2 and 3 to ensure our students’ aspirations and talents are catered for. Once all GCSE exams have finished, students complete an induction week to prepare them for the transition to their A level and BTEC courses. Students complete a range of independent tasks and wider reading prior to starting their sixth form studies to ensure that they are well prepared for the high standards expected of them at our sixth form.

Our collective drive to improve outcomes for all students means our focus on improving the classroom experience for students is relentless. Sedgehill’s teaching staff is highly skilled and committed to ensuring the very highest standards in all sixth form lessons. All staff are asked the question ‘would this be good enough for your child?’ and these are the standards and expectations that are at the core of the school. As a result, all our students are challenged to meet high academic standards. Sixth form life is very different from year 11. Students are expected to take charge of their learning by managing their time effectively to meet deadlines, seeking out and using resources and working independently. Our sixth form area has a bespoke, supervised independent study area with state of the art facilities. Sixth formers also have access to our library at all times and expert guidance from sixth form and library staff throughout the day. Our common room with its own Costa coffee bar gives students the opportunity to take a short break or work more informally in small groups. Many students take advantage of our after school and weekend sessions. This new level of independence and resilience is crucial to students’ achievement and ensuring that our young people are ready for the demands of university or the workplace.

We encourage all our students to lead initiatives and share the leadership of our vibrant school community; we believe that all our sixth form students have the potential to be young leaders and should play a role in how the school is run. The very best of these are appointed to be Student Ambassadors. We have a team of year 12 and year 13 Student Ambassadors supporting whole school events and community work. Many student leaders spend time working alongside teachers in KS3 and KS4 classes or working as technicians, mentors and leading by example in our school and wider community. Some of our Student Ambassadors are also part of the Lewisham Pupil Ambassadors group working in the wider community, alongside other young people in Lewisham on projects and initiatives.
