Sixth Form ‘To be able to dream about the future, while being inspired in the present to reach those dreams’ Dr. Russell J. Quaglia
The Aspirations Academies Trust The Aspirations Academies Trust (AAT) in England is a charitable organisation operating in association with the Quaglia Institute for Student Aspirations (QISA) and Aspirations Unlimited International (AUI). AAT academies benefit from QISA’s remarkable record of more than 30 years of research and experience working with students, educators and schools. All Aspirations Academies are committed to raising students’ aspirations so that all young people reach their full potential and achieve the success they want for themselves. Each academy challenges its students and staff to perform at their highest level within a creative culture of positivity, innovation and enthusiasm for success.
Welcome to the Sixth Form I am delighted to welcome you to the Magna Academy Sixth Form prospectus, and hope you find it both informative and useful. I would encourage you to visit the Academy to see our top class facilities and discuss course requirements in more detail. Your choice of Sixth Form is a crucial one, for whatever path you choose in future, university, training or employment. It is essential that you stand out from the crowd with the best possible grades and personal development. Our philosophy is that the combination of high standards of expectations, combined with high aspirations, brings high levels of performance and success. Our Sixth Form prides itself on high standards of learning, attitudes, respect, dress and behaviour. We expect the very highest standards in all areas from our students, with them actively contributing to our school community, adopting positions of leadership and responsibility across the Academy, and representing the very best of what Magna Academy has to offer. We successfully prepare young people to have a competitive edge in the 21st century workplace. We pride ourselves on understanding the exacting demands that are placed on young people in an increasingly competitive work, and work hard to ensure that they are able to demonstrate 21st century skills: digital literacy, entrepreneurialism, creativity, productivity and high levels of communication skills. Most of all we offer young people to opportunity to excel. Welcome to the Magna Academy Sixth Form. We hope that you will decide that it is the right choice for you and look forward to welcoming you to our Sixth Form community in September 2014. Richard Tutt – Principal

Life in the Sixth Form Life in the Sixth Form is a new, exciting and challenging experience. Dressed in suits and office dress, students are given greater freedom and responsibility, within a secure framework of support and guidance. We understand success at A Level and BTEC level is a partnership between students, parents and teachers, working towards a common goal. Each year we are delighted students leave Magna Academy Sixth Form as confident young men and women who possess the skills and knowledge to succeed. As well as their academic work we encourage all students to be fully involved in the life of the school. We believe leadership and teamwork are important skills for all young adults and we are keen to provide opportunities to develop these invaluable skills as well as making a contribution to the wider community. Students find our approach an appropriate bridge between the tight structure of GCSE and the freedoms of university life and we pride ourselves on the supportive atmosphere we generate. We encourage students both academically and socially, and equip Sixth Formers with the skills, knowledge and qualifications to guarantee success in higher education and the world of work. We offer a diverse and varied curriculum, offering a wide range of A Level and BTEC National courses, a successful mentoring programme and a number of inspiring initiatives to encourage ambition and increase aspirations. Our suite of A Levels and BTEC is supported by a growing relationship with other local Sixth Forms and Education providers who compliment our own extensive subject knowledge and specialist facilities. As senior students, Sixth Formers play an important role as leaders in the School and have many opportunities to work with younger pupils through our house, prefect and mentoring systems, and also to immerse themselves in a varied programme of extra-curricular activities. Students take responsible for their own learning within a challenging environment and will be encouraged to think for themselves and to develop the self-discipline and rigour needed for success at Advanced Level and beyond.
