Learning together, achieving success

Welcome to cambridge heath sixth form We are a partnership between three schools – Morpeth, Oaklands and Swanlea – which we set up in 2009 with the aim of providing students from our schools, and the local area, with a post-16 provision that offered all the strengths and security of a school sixth form but with a greater breadth of offer. Whilst students at CHSF are based on one campus, they may study a subject at another school and will benefit from the huge range of extra-curricular and enrichment opportunities that can be offered through the partnership. We believe there are three core factors which are key to our success as a sixth form: Factor 1: academic success. All three schools have a proven track record at KS4 and we have extended that same confidence into KS5. Our results have improved year on year with students achieving the highest grades and being offered places on courses from medicine to law to PPE to drama at RADA, and at top universities including Oxbridge, UCL, King’s, Manchester, Leeds and SOAS.

Factor 2: support for students’ personal and social development. We have a strong tutoring system at all campuses which means that each student is known, monitored, supported and challenged. Students follow a tutorial programme which helps prepare them for their chosen routes post-18 and for adult life.

Factor 3: a wealth of enrichment opportunities on offer to our students. We know that learning doesn’t just happen in the classroom and that we have a responsibility to ensure that students have a breadth of experience that will widen their horizons and imbue them with confidence. We look forward to welcoming you in person.

“ When I come in to college I feel like I’m visiting an extended family”

EXCELLENCE through Cambridge Heath Sixth Form is built on partnerships. Of course, we benefit from the partnership of the three schools. By working together to combine our skills and expertise we are able to provide breadth and quality and have the advantage of three sites with outstanding facilities and resources. However, we also benefit from our position in the heart of London with our many partnerships with businesses, arts organisations and some of the top universities in the country. Finally, the most important partnership is between students, families and the schools; we know how important it is that we are all working together to ensure success and to provide support where needed.

student life

By choosing Cambridge Heath Sixth Form as your place of study, you will not only be able to access the broad curriculum that only a collaboration of three outstanding schools can provide, but also a broad range of extracurricular activities based on the facilities at our three campuses. Depending on the subjects you choose, you will become a campus member of one of the three schools which form Cambridge Heath. Each campus has a full tutor team lead by a Head of Year. You will be a member of a form group and expected to support the ethos of hard work, attendance and punctuality. Your tutor will guide you through the process of achieving the best you can in your studies and your application to university or the world of work. Each campus is equipped with dedicated sixth form facilities which include quiet study areas and separate social areas for sixth formers. Study rooms include access to PCs and the internet for independent study purposes. The study areas are supervised by academic mentors, who when not providing one-to-one support in their specialist subjects, are also available for more general academic support.

Volunteering is a key aspect of life at Cambridge Heath and sixth formers often lead the way on charity events, such as Red Nose Day and Children in Need as well as participating in events organised with local and national charitable organisations. We expect each student to undertake 30 hours of volunteering in Year 12. In addition to volunteering each campus has a range of clubs and extra-curricular events, including trips to the theatre, internships with City businesses and organisations, self-development programmes, taster days and residential trips to universities, and international visits. The sixth form is an important phase in the journey towards university or the world of work and our dedicated HE advisory team and experienced tutors will help students navigate the possibilities and turn them into reality.

You will be encouraged to participate in the life of the sixth form and also the campus as whole. Sixth formers are expected to be role models for all ages in the schools they attend and many find it fulfilling to participate in mentoring lower school students.

Choosing the right courses You will need to ask yourself

Before making your decisions

• What am I good at?

• U nderstand that A levels and Level 3 BTECs are much harder than GCSEs. The next two years will be the hardest of your academic life so far.

• Which subject most interests me? • What do I want to do when I leave school?

• Look closely at the wide range of courses that we offer. • R emember that the best way to succeed is to choose subjects you enjoy studying. • R ead the Choices Booklet thoroughly – important course descriptions and entry requirements are included in this guide.
