Committed to Excellence in Learning and Teaching

A Warm Welcome to

Jubilee High Our priority as a school is to ensure our students achieve more than they thought possible. The school motto ‘committed to excellence in learning and teaching’ guides our efforts in all we do.

“ Inspirational and highly ambitious senior leadership has transformed the school.” Ofsted 2013

We work tirelessly to ensure our students benefit from a varied and engaging curriculum as well as an extensive range of artistic, cultural and sporting activities. Parents and students who choose Jubilee High are assured of high standards of teaching and learning in a modern, stimulating and wellequipped environment. We believe that we can make a radical difference to the life chances of our students and that we can help nurture confident, active and socially responsible young people. I look forward to welcoming you to our school and demonstrating how, together, we can provide the best opportunities for our students. Stephen Price Headteacher

Excellence

for All

We have high expectations of our students and believe that everyone is capable of excellence at Jubilee High School. We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that is designed to stretch and support every student.

We therefore focus on teaching students the skills to be effective learners, and to encourage in them a love of learning that they will keep throughout their life. All students are expected to complete regular homework to extend and reinforce their learning. Parents are provided with six reports and at least one parent and teacher meeting a year to maintain an on-going dialogue about their child’s achievement and care.

“ The quality of teaching is good.” Ofsted 2013

Similarly, we have high expectations of our staff because we believe the work that takes place in the classroom is the cornerstone of Jubilee High’s success. We provide time every week for staff training and development to ensure our students receive the best learning experience possible. As part of the Bourne Trust (a multi-academy trust of schools) we benefit from experienced support and expertise which further develops our drive towards high standards of achievement throughout the whole school.

Leading

the Way

Our students are encouraged to be creative and reflective in their thinking and to become increasingly independent learners as they progress through the school. We expect all of them to aspire to leadership roles in, and beyond, the classroom. We attach great importance to developing student leadership and positions of responsibility within tutor, house, school council, prefect and technical and community teams. This ensures that our students leave us as active, social and resilient young people.

“ Students are polite and courteous and have good attitudes to learning. Ofsted 2013

Classroom We are fortunate to be able to provide our students with a spacious and wellequipped environment to learn. Our facilities include a purpose-built theatre, a drama studio, a study centre, sports halls and gym, squash and outdoor courts and extensive ICT provision throughout the school. Our wide-ranging enrichment programme offers all our students excellent academic, artistic, cultural and sporting opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether it is a day trip to support the understanding of a new topic, a lunch-time or after-school club to prepare for a sporting competition, learning a musical instrument or foreign travel to widen horizons, every student has the opportunity to participate and get involved. Jubilee High School also runs an extensive Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and many students achieve their Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

Joining

Jubilee High Before a student’s first day in September, our transition team visit Primary schools and talk to teachers to make sure we are prepared for every student. We also spend time talking with students and their parents during our summer induction days to discuss how we can support them at Jubilee High School.

“ The behaviour and safety of pupils is good.” Ofsted 2013

On arrival, every student becomes a member of a Form group and has a Form Tutor and a Head of Year who will be there to provide guidance and encouragement from the beginning. Students will see their tutor each day for registration and have the opportunity to seek help or advice. Every student also belongs to one of five houses: Spartans, Romans, Macedonians, Athenians or Persians. The House system establishes a sense of belonging and fosters fun, enjoyment and a competitive spirit amongst students and staff alike. There are many inter-house competitions and tournaments throughout the year. Jubilee High School is of a size that allows our staff to know all our students and therefore provide focused support for them throughout their school life.

“ Lessons are well planned to meet the needs of and engage students. Ofsted 2013
