Welcome
to Stroud High School
A very warm welcome to our school. Stroud High School is a high achieving 11-18 girls’ grammar school set in the market town of Stroud in the heart of Gloucestershire.
Our broad and vibrant curriculum not only offers girls opportunities to gain the vital qualifications they need to achieve an exciting and rewarding future, but the personal skills and qualities that will enable them to fulfil their hopes and ambitions.
Whilst Stroud High School is a dynamic and forward thinking community, it is built upon
the traditional values of respect, courtesy, honour and a desire to help others, as well as a spirit of fun and enjoyment. We are committed to ensuring that when girls leave Stroud High School at the age of 18 they are confident young women with a passion for life-long learning, strong moral values and ready and willing to take their place in society. Fundamental to our purpose is that girls leave us well-equipped for a successful future, with a wealth of happy memories and friendships that last a lifetime. Mr Mark McShane, Headteacher

& Aspiration
Every girl at Stroud High School is challenged to achieve their personal best in whatever they do, be it academic, sporting, the arts, or developing valuable life skills such as leadership and team working. Students work in collaboration with a talented and committed team of staff in a unique environment where they learn that aspiration, risk taking, and the development of ‘grit and determination’ lead to success. The collaborative ethos and the trust engendered through the
positive and respectful relationships in the school are what make it exceptional. We are very proud of the high academic achievement at Stroud High School, with our girls far exceeding national expectations for individual progress year after year. The ethos of personal best enables every girl to succeed through expert teaching, outstanding support and the promotion of their individual commitment to ‘being the best they can possibly be’.
The girls at Stroud High School thrive in a warm, friendly and positive atmosphere, and our Tutors and Year Leaders work closely with an experienced and dedicated pastoral team to ensure that every girl feels supported and cared for. Our girls develop as confident individuals against the background of a strong and proactive school community. A wealth of opportunities beyond the taught curriculum are provided through a wide range of clubs and societies, whole school events, charity work, our House system, international links and the Student Council. Stroud High School students have a long tradition of active citizenship, raising awareness of social issues and fund raising for good causes.
Community
Our students regularly engage with national and international issues including debating in the European Youth Parliament and speaking at the UN Youth Caucus of the Committee on the Status of Women, to raising money for a variety of charities such as Habitats for Humanity through our AfriTwin project. Through our unique ‘Triple A Award’ (Aspiration, Achievement, Altruism), students gain formal recognition for a variety of skill areas developed throughout their time with us, including supporting the learning of others, being a positive role model and offering leadership.
“ The staff at Stroud High School have inspired my daughter to do her best, from the numerous trips she has been on to playing her saxophone in the school concerts. She has been given a platform to push herself that little bit more.” Parent of Year 11 Student

Opportunity The learning experience at Stroud High School reaches far beyond the classroom. Our girls flourish through opportunities to develop their talents and strengths, as well as take on new and exciting challenges. We have a wide-ranging extra-curricular programme which includes international exchanges, drama, music concerts and performances, debating and public speaking, charitable fundraising, STEM projects and competitions. The school also has an excellent reputation for sporting success, and a full and inclusive programme of sporting

activities means there is something for girls of all abilities. The House system gives students opportunities to work together across all years to support and compete with each other. House Points are the currency of our rewards system and encourage both healthy competition and a sense of collective pride across year groups. Our 6th Form girls lead our Houses, organising events, engaging and enthusing the younger students and modelling the essential qualities of leadership and team working.
The single sex environment in Years 7 to 11 instils confidence and independence in our girls, leading to exceptional achievement at KS4 and laying solid foundations for excellent academic achievement at A Level. When our students make the transition into our co-educational 6th Form, in collaboration with Marling School, they do so as confident young women able to fully participate in, and contribute to, the post-16 experience.
“ I have had 6 years to observe and participate in Stroud High School’s immense spirit – respect, dedication and friendship.”
Links with industry, a broad range of enrichment opportunities, cross-school projects and excellent support for higher education applications – including Russell Group universities and Oxbridge
preparation – makes our 6th Form second to none. Alongside this, our girls continue to benefit from the excellent provision of support, care and guidance that make our school exceptional. The wealth of opportunities to become role models, mentors and leaders for our younger girls ensures that our 6th Form students remain an integral and much valued part of the Stroud High School family. Young women who join us for the 6th Form are warmly welcomed into that family to benefit from the unique care, support and guidance we offer, as well as attain the excellent qualifications they need for the future.
