BROMPTON ACADEMY
transforming lives through learning
Welcome to the successful, innovative Brompton Academy. An energetic, forward thinking and oversubscribed learning community that is part of the newly established University of Kent Academies Trust (UKAT). The new Trust has two UKAT Academies, Brompton Academy and Chatham Grammar School for Girls (CGSG). The opportunities through UKAT are plentiful and both schools will benefit from a range of key interventions provided by the lead sponsor, the University of Kent. These include: a shared sixth form provision, wider curriculum opportunities, excellent shared facilities, bespoke graduate and postgraduate Student Ambassadors Mentoring Scheme and the unique UKAT Teacher Training programme. At Brompton Academy, learning is dynamic, intensive, motivating and fun. Learning is not confined to the classroom, but is accessible all day and every day, transforming and changing the perceptions of young people and their lives through the availability of up-to-date knowledge of the world in which they live. When you arrive at Brompton Academy you will be inspired and enthused to push the boundaries of learning, to engage, to participate and to belong.
We understand that educational success ultimately depends upon the desire to learn, and we have adopted a highly innovative approach to curriculum design actively supported by our Lead Sponsor, the University of Kent. This intellectually rich partnership has resulted in the Academy offering a robust, inspirational curriculum, that features academic rigour through the English Baccalaureate and other traditional GCSE and A level routes. You can rest assured that our pioneering approach to education is underpinned by a tried and tested strategy for achieving excellent results in public examinations. We believe that our students are entitled to achieve the best possible outcomes regardless of their starting point and that they will flourish into successful young people full of enthusiasm, with a love for life and a passion for the world around them.
We strongly encourage you to visit the Academy and discover the energy and enthusiasm for learning. Trust me, you won’t want to leave! Jennifer Robertson MA Principal

On entry to the Academy students join the Transition Mini schools, Darwin or Turing where they remain for two years. Focussing on developing students thinking and independent learning skills, is pivotal in laying the strong foundations required for successful outcomes in their academic studies through to public examinations. At the end of Year 8 students formally ‘graduate’ to one of the three Mini Schools: Woolf, Keynes or Rutherford and begin their GCSEs, BTECs and Advanced level programmes. All students follow a core curriculum consisting of English, Mathematics, Sciences, PE and our own bespoke Personal Professional Development Programme. Our ultimate aim is for all students to achieve outstanding outcomes in all their learning programmes, so that they have excellent opportunities for progression into Higher Education via university.
The Franklin Sixth Form Centre is part of the newly established University of Kent Academies Trust (UKAT), and is the natural step for many of our students who are focused on achieving future successful careers. The curriculum offer is extensive; meeting the demands of our ever changing global economy and coupled with the intensive wrap around learning support that has evolved through transition from Mini School to Sixth Form. Sixth Form students are also able to take advantage of the academic and social facilities at the University of Kent’s Medway campus. They receive support and guidance on university entry and career choices. In addition, students benefit from one-to-one mentoring by undergraduates from the University of Kent, which inspires them to complete their studies and progress to Higher Education. Students want to succeed, they want to have successful careers and they choose to stay at Brompton Academy.

Our investment in the latest Apple technology has created an eco-learning system that builds students’ investigative skills and creative thinking, there are no limits when using mobile devices for learning Our investment in the latest Apple technology has created an eco-learning system that builds students’ investigative skills and creative thinking, there are no limits when using mobile devices for learning. At Brompton Academy we have harnessed world class new and emerging Apple educational programmes and technologies, and we have literally placed the iPad into the hands of our students to empower them as learners; to give them the ability and capability to answer questions and find out information that their curious minds seek. Learning becomes limitless, boundless and atmospheric, as mobile devices enable the absorption of knowledge across many different levels of interactive experiences. State of the art Apple technology has removed the traditional barriers to learning, and transformed teaching and learning across the Academy for students and staff. Teachers are inspired, enthused and push the boundaries with their students; there are no limits when using mobile devices in learning. Students’ curiosity is ignited and encouraged as they are exposed and invited to explore innovative new ways of learning. The freedom to learn differently, using the latest technologies, stretches across the Academy curriculum. Students with a flair for artistic design and media creativity can enjoy the multitude of benefits born in the plentiful iMac suites. Radio and television production coupled with the inspiration of specialist music technology ensures the Arts is
multi-dimensional. Our Sports Science laboratory enables students to develop their scientific understanding of Sport and the links between the physical, anatomical and molecular levels of the body. Languages have been lifted from the traditional constraints of the text book, and given new life through the diversity of the educational apps – making an oral Spanish lesson a fun interactive cultural experience. Advanced specification Science laboratories with cutting edge technologies and specialist resources, are the basis for an investigative scientific approach to research and experimentation. A purpose built Science lecture theatre with wipe clean coated wall spaces allow walls to be used as a canvas to explore concepts and share ideas in a highly creative way. We have been thoughtful and experimental in choosing how we can enhance our students’ learning through new and emerging technologies. Lessons can be shared via live film links; Apple TVs allow the iPad to work in a different way by encouraging students to share their findings and work in collaboration with each other and their teacher. Learning becomes collective, but also enhances the individual study skills of students. Learning is mobile, free and accessible for all our students. The classroom is a forum for educational discovery, and the home is an extension as our students take their mobile devices home each day to extend their learning experiences.

Experience and discovery are key to the growth and development of our students and enrichment is a key feature of the curriculum offer at Brompton Academy. We believe that students are entitled to sample a wide range of experiences that encourage students to tread new pathways, experience the unknown and be excited by new opportunities.
The Academy has its very own unique Combined Cadet Force (CCF), which is a young persons movement sponsored by her Majesty’s Armed Forces and open to Phase Two students. The CCF provides students with a wide range of challenging and fun opportunities developing sound leadership skills, self-reliance, perseverance and endurance.
The electives programme invites Phase One students to attend fun-fuelled exciting new experiences that stretch the mind and invigorate the body. Students can enjoy a rich menu of sporting, leisure based or intellectually stretching activities including skiing, horse riding, chess, boxing, lego league and international cooking – all free of charge!
Students are encouraged to embrace this sense of belonging and through the Student Voice participate in healthy competitions, sports events and cultural activities; such as Black History Month, VE Day and LGBT Month.
