Welcome to
St Matthew’s St Matthew’s is a successful and happy Church of England primary school close to Redhill town centre. From our nursery class to Year 6, the children are at the centre of all we do and achieve. We are ambitious for our pupils and their academic achievements, encouraging high expectations and aspirations for children and adults alike. We are an inclusive, safe, learning-focused school, serving an exciting and diverse community. Caring Christian values are central to the ethos of St Matthew’s School where each child is known and encouraged as an individual with specific talents and needs. We believe in developing independent and resilient learners with a positive growth mindset. Our skilled and dedicated teachers endeavour to maximise each child’s potential, by providing a wide range of educational experiences and opportunities to help them develop spiritually, socially and morally as well as academically. We are proud of all our children and their families and all that we can offer them at St Matthew’s School.

Our Curriculum At St Matthew’s we offer our pupils an exciting and relevant curriculum which challenges and supports high achievement for every child. We make maximum use of our spacious grounds and facilities to enhance learning outside as well as inside the classroom. High standards in English and mathematics are a priority, along with a strong emphasis on cross curricular learning and opportunities for children to apply their skills and knowledge in context. Technology is used to support learning throughout the school. Science, computing, art, music, Physical Education, modern foreign languages, history, geography are taught in an engaging and practical way. Themed curriculum days always prove popular. As a church school, Religious Education has a high profile. Children learn about religion and also from religion, where they can be reflective and comment on how religious teachings have an impact on their own lives. All our children are capable of great success. All pupils are challenged during their learning whatever their strengths, abilities or additional needs so that every child can make good progress from their starting point and achieve highly.

Extending Curriculum
Experiences
High quality learning in the classroom is only part of the learning experience at St Matthew’s. We are proud of our wide and varied programme of extended learning activities. We believe that participation in clubs, visits and other activities are key elements of a genuinely rounded education, benefiting children’s confidence, self-esteem, resilience, social skills and aspirations. Visits to places of interest, both local and further afield, and residential trips are an integral part of the curriculum. We offer a wide range of clubs that take place at lunchtime or after school including choir, sports clubs, gardening, homework support, cooking and art.
Breakfast Club and “Stars” after-school club provide wraparound childcare. There are opportunities for the children to learn a musical instrument, to perform in music concerts and dance festivals and to compete in inter-school sports fixtures and academic quizzes. The school is proud to have been awarded the prestigious Gold PE Kitemark and Gold Healthy School status, external recognition of the high quality initiatives and achievements at St Matthew’s School.

Striving for
Excellence
Our goal at St Matthew’s is to be outstanding in everything we do. We aim for all our children to flourish, to be happy and to achieve more than they thought possible. We achieve this by outstanding teaching in every class and opportunities for all children to participate in trips and activities to see and experience what the wider world offers. In addition, strong pastoral care and adults modelling positive behaviours and values help develop children’s character. High quality teaching and learning, accelerated progress and achievement, excellent behaviour and pupil welfare, consistently good attendance, positive partnership with parents are expected from all members of our strong school community. By celebrating pupils’ efforts, progress and achievements we build self-esteem and promote high standards of attainment. Our children are confident in themselves and their abilities and continue to grow into self-assured young people. We aim for our pupils to be equipped with the skills, knowledge, values and attitudes needed to empower them to pursue their goals in life and contribute positively to society.
