Welcome Welcome to Waverley Abbey Church of England Junior School.
Kate Redman Executive Headteacher Rebecca Marshall Head of School
Our school has a clear purpose – to provide the very best education to every pupil who attends; to ensure that all achieve their potential academically but also flourish and grow as young people who can confidently move to the next stage of their education. Underneath this mantle and very much running through all that we do are our core values - we believe in guiding our students to develop their own moral compass. As a Church of England school and a member of the Good Shepherd Academy Trust, we strive to do this through the Christian Values of: Love, Care and Respect for one another.

Our
Core focus Children learn best when they feel valued. At Waverley Abbey we aim to develop the strengths and qualities which make us all unique and special. Our teaching and learning is planned to cover the breadth and depth of the national curriculum; in addition to this we constantly seek opportunities to enhance learning through special projects. Our aim is to deliver a balanced curriculum that enable pupils to develop skills and knowledge across a broad spectrum.

Our pupils consistently attain above national averages when tested at the end of Year Six. By setting high standards of excellence our teaching staff ensure that every child leaves us as a balanced, confident and self-disciplined individual.

Developing &
growing Resilience; teamwork; leadership; perseverance; reflection. Our curriculum is planned around a range of different learning experiences both within and beyond the classroom. We know that by challenging our pupils to think for themselves and apply their knowledge that we are preparing them well for life beyond our school gates.
Page 6
We are an inclusive school; we work to ensure that we offer an education that provides well for all of our students no matter what their starting point is. All pupils are challenged to extend and deepen their knowledge every day.
Page 7
Ways of
thinking We believe in nurturing a growth mindset. We aim to teach children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort and keep on learning by using a positive growth mindset. We encourage children to seek challenges for improvement and see failure as chance to learn from mistakes. All staff model the belief that we can always improve and that by looking at peoples’ success as a lesson to learn more.
Page 8
Lessons are planned to link learning processes, knowledge and skills. Our teaching staff keep on-going assessments on every child to ensure that their learning is pitched at the correct level with appropriate challenges and support.

Perseverance &
Achievement School should be challenging; we give our children the chance to learn that through perseverance comes achievement and success. The school staff is a dedicated team who have the highest expectations of themselves as professionals but also of the pupils they teach. The school leadership invests time in ensuring that our staff team have access to quality professional development so that we can continue to respond to the changes in educational landscape and information from academic research.
We look to extend and deepen our understanding of how to create the most productive and effective learning environment so that our students can develop their understanding of the world in which they live.

An inclusive
education “A happy, cohesive and inclusive school. Pupils are proud and keen to learn.” OFSTED For a large school there is a strong family feel at Waverley Abbey. The staff, children, governors and parents all work together as a team. Relationships between staff and pupils are based on mutual trust and respect and we forge strong and active partnerships with our parent body. This creates a positive atmosphere for everyone within the school community.

Outside the
classroom We strive to give a well-rounded education through extra-curricular activities and residential trips. We actively encourage our children’s sporting interests and offer a range of clubs. Our pupils represent Waverley Abbey in competitions with other local schools at county and national level. Our extra-curricular activities offer pupils the opportunity to learn (new) skills in a variety of areas for example, languages, dance, drama and singing. Page 14
The school offers a range of residential opportunities and class learning is often enhanced by an offsite visit or by welcoming visitors to school. Children learn effectively through real life experiences and we work hard to include this within our curriculum teaching.
