A BRAND NEW ACADEMY WITH DRIVE AND AMBITION
OPENING IN SEPTEMBER 2020
A NEW SCHOOL WITH A PROVEN TEAM Harris Academy Clapham will open in September 2020 for our first group of 195 Year 7 students.
Sam Hainey, Executive Principal
We are creating a school that will be a superb place to learn. Our students will work hard and be supported in turning their dreams into reality. Our aim is that they will leave with a deep sense of achievement, ready to excel, and filled with confidence that ‘everything is possible’. Our brand new building is being purpose built for our students. We will educate them up to and including Year 11 and will be affiliated to the Harris Clapham Sixth Form opening nearby in September 2021.
Gizlé Landman, Head of Academy
We have the support and backing of the Harris Federation, which has a track record in education that is second to none. We have both previously led ‘outstanding’ Harris academies; our goal is for Clapham to match the exceptionally high standards for which the Harris Federation is known and be a true beacon of learning in the community. Being part of this school from its inception has been an amazing opportunity for us as teachers. It is also an amazing opportunity for our future students and parents. We look forward to meeting you and your children at our forthcoming admissions events, details of which can be found on our website. Please also follow us on Twitter – @HarrisClapham – to keep up to date with our progress and receive information on all forthcoming events.

OUR FIRST 195 CHILDREN Students joining in 2020 will be uniquely advantaged as the only year group in the school for the first year. After that they will be the ‘seniors’ in the school for each year group that follows them, allowing them unique opportunities for student leadership and mentoring of the younger groups as they model being an outstanding Harris Clapham student.

Our first Year 7 cohort will have the new building to themselves in the first year – they will also benefit from the best teaching and transition from primary school. Our priority is to select teachers who are experts in their fields with deep subject knowledge and an exceptional ability to support, challenge and enthuse students. They will be skilled in ensuring that the needs of each individual child is met.
A WELL-ROUNDED EDUCATION We want all our students to enjoy their education and to achieve their true potential. We offer a broad range of high-quality subjects and they will be taught to an exceptional standard. We will place appropriate emphasis on the core subjects – maths, English, the humanities, the sciences and languages – but we will also offer all students excellent teaching in other vital subjects including sport, technology and the range of performing arts.
Our curriculum will also focus on shaping the character of our students and giving them the best personal development. This way they will have the greatest opportunity to make their mark on the world. Our ambition also includes enabling students to learn at least two modern foreign languages. As well as Spanish, students will be able to learn Chinese as part of an initiative run by the Harris Federation to improve the quality of Chinese language teaching in London.

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES Students will be constantly encouraged to learn new skills and to enjoy new challenges that go well beyond the curriculum. Our enrichment calendar will be published each term: it will have some permanent fixtures but also fresh opportunities on a regular basis for students to do something completely new. We will include these details on our website. Looking forward, as a Harris academy, we will be part of Harris Experience. This programme has been designed for the most able students

from Year 9 onwards. It exposes them to a range of academic and cultural experiences that take their learning well beyond the curriculum. Recent examples range from learning the art of auctioneering at Christie’s to a day of lectures at the University of Oxford. We will make sure that this builds on what we will do with our students in Years 7 and 8.
OUR VALUES All leaders, staff and students at the academy will uphold the same five values:
Endeavour
to relish challenge, learn to take sensible risks and to never give up
Self-belief
to believe that they can and will go on to achieve their ambitions
Honesty
to act with integrity, treating others the way they would like to be treated
Excellence
to never settle for second best or for the easiest option
Global views
to understand their place in the world and how they can make it a better place

A SUPERB BUILDING The construction of our stateof-the-art building is well underway so that it will be complete before the academy opens in September 2020.
It will be an airy, light and welcoming environment, packed full of the resources our staff need to teach their subjects to the highest level. Our superb design has allowed us to maximise the space available to ensure both inside and outside sports facilities, dedicated art, music, drama and technology areas as well as science laboratories.
ADMISSIONS To apply for one of our 195 places, name Harris Academy Clapham on the Common Application Form provided by your home local authority. Like all secondary schools, children with education, health and care plans or a statement of special educational needs will be offered the first places. Looked-after and previously lookedafter children will have next priority. After this priority will be given to siblings of students already attending the academy – obviously this is only applicable from September 2021. Priority will also be given to children of staff who have been recruited to fill skill-shortage areas.
Then priority will be given to pupils of Glenbrook Primary School. Although the two schools are not affiliated to each other, we will be next door to one another. All remaining places will be offered to children on the basis of the closeness of their home to the academy. Our full admissions policy can be found on our website.
